BEATRICE

She is 8 months old and weighs 7 pounds.  She was admitted with a 105 temp, diarrhea, vomiting  and was in distress.  She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries.  She has 1 living sister at home.  Her mama and papa both buy items in bulk and resells them for a profit.  They also have gardens that produce beans and corn.  The family lives in a 3 room home made of block and tin.  They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from a piped system that is about a 15 minute walk from their homes.  Her mama stopped breastfeeding her about a month ago because she had a fever and thought she would made Beatrice sick as well.  They have been feeding her spaghetti and soup since then.  They traveled 5 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.  The families average monthly income is around $35US.  She was given medication and started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
