New Admits

 

Jn Renold

He is 4 years old and weighed 24.5 pounds when admitted. He was admitted with severe malnutrition and edema. He was enrolled in our outpatient mamba program starting in May 2015 but then abandoned the program in November 2015. He came back to clinic in October of this year and his height had not changed and he had lost weight. This is his 4th time with kwash. His mom and dad are both farmers and they grow beans, corn and pumpkins. It took them 6 hours to arrive here at the clinic on moto. He has 1 sister and 1 brother and together they live in a 3 room house made of dirt and tin. They do not have running water for a toilet or an outhouse. It takes them 2 hours to get water. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk but then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Myolaika

She is 21 months old and weighed 15.5 pounds when admitted. She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries with severe malnutrition and a refusal to eat the mamba she was given. We were told from her mother that she left her with the child’s uncle in May and she had drank clorox. They believe this is why she has refused to eat. Her dad is a carpenter and her mom is a factory worker. She has 1 sister and they live in a rented 2 room house. They do not have running water for a toilet however they do have an outhouse. They buy there water from a place 10 minutes away. The day she arrived at the clinic, she had ate soup and juice. The day before she had bean sauce. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk but then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Jonel

He is 15 years old and weighed 38 pounds when admitted. He was enrolled in our outpatient mamba program but instead of gaining weight, he was losing weight on the program so he was admitted into our inpatient care. It takes him 4 hours to get to our clinic on foot. He has 4 brothers and 1 sibling that died from a fever. His dad is farmer and grows beans, corn and pumpkin. His mom buys items in bulk and resells them. The whole family lives in a 1 room house made of tin and tarp. They do not have running water for a toilet however they do have an outhouse. They get their water from a pump that is 5 minutes away. The day he arrived, he had eaten rice and the day before he had cooked grains and beans. He is currently on our Medika Mamba program.

Geraldo

He is 17 months and weighed 16 pounds when admitted. He came in with severe malnutrition, mild edema, and was having lots diarrhea. He was enrolled in our outpatient mamba program however was not gaining like he should have been. It took them 1 hour to get here on moto. He has 4 brothers, 2 sisters and had 1 sibling that died from seizures. His dad is a farmer and grows beans, corn and plantains. His mom buys items in bulk and then resells them. They live in a rented 2 room house. They do not have running water for a toilet or an outhouse. They buy their water from a place 10 minutes away. The day he arrived, he had eaten soup, rice and bean sauce. The day before he had soup. He was started on F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Mykelina

She is 2 years old and weighed 20 pounds when admitted. She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries with severe edema from kwashiorkor. He had also had many fevers and diarrhea before arriving. It had taken them 4 hours to get here on both car and moto. Her dad is a taxi driver and her mom does not work. They live in a 1 room house made of brick and dirt. They don’t have any running water for a toilet however they do have an outhouse. They buy their water from 5 minutes away. She did not have anything to eat on the day she arrived, however the day before, she had eaten rice and vegetables. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Ruth

She is 9 months old and weighed 10.5 pounds when admitted. She came with severe malnutrition and was having diarrhea, vomiting, cough and a fever. We were told that every time she tried eating, should would throw up shortly there after. It had taken them 1 hour to arrive here on moto. She has 3 sisters, 1 brother and 1 sibling who had died from diarrhea and a fever. Her dad is a moto driver and her mom buys items in bulk and then resells them. They live in a 2 room home made of tin and bricks. They do not have running water for a toilet or an outhouse. It takes them 15 minutes to go get their water from a pump. The day she arrived, she ate porridge and milk and the day before, just porridge.

Dalensky

He is 8 months and weighed 12 pounds 12 ounces when admitted. He was referred from Children’t Health Ministries with malnutrition, diarrhea and vomiting. It took them 4 hours to arrive here by both car and moto. He has 1 other brother and they live in a 1 room rented house with 6 people in total. His dad is a moto driver and his mom has run away. They do not have running water for a toilet however they do have an outhouse. They buy there water from 10 minutes away. He is currently on the Medika Mamba program.
