New Admits

Lovenson

He is 2 years old and weighed 24 pounds when admitted. He was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries.He came to us with kwashirokor and did not want to eat. The day he came to us he had ate some macaroni and crackers and the day before he had some rice. His dad builds houses and his mom buys items in bulk and sells them. He has one other sibling and lives in a one room house made of rocks and tin. It takes them one hour to get water and they do not have an outhouse or toilet. He was started on F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Witchlove

She is 2 years old and weighed 21 pounds when admitted. She was admitted because she had kwashiokor. They had a one hour moto ride to get hear. The day she came in, she ate crackers and milk and the day before she had rice and sauce. Her dad is a farmer and grows corn and beans. Her mom buys items in bulk and sells them. She has 3 other siblings and lives in a one bedroom house which the family rents. They do not have running water for a toilet or an outhouse. The family buys there water from a vendor 10 minutes away. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Dieunica

She is 2 years old and weighed 21 pounds when admitted. When she arrived she had been vomiting and had a fever for several days already. She also was coughing and had some trouble breathing. She had definite signs of kwashiokor. It took them 3 hours to travel here by foot. On the day of arrival, she had eaten some cheese puffs and the day before some soup. She has 2 brothers and 2 sisters and 2 other siblings who have died. Her parents are both farmers and grow beans and corn. They live in a 2 room house made of tin and rock. They do not have any running water however they do have an outhouse. It takes them 2 hours to travel and get there water. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Taina

She is 3 years old and weighed 36 pounds when admitted. She came in with severe kwashiokor and has lost almost 9 pounds of water weight. Upon arrival she was also dealing with worms. The day she arrived, she had milk and bread. The day before she had corn and beans. They had an hour long moto ride to arrive here. She does not have any brothers or sisters. Her dad is a farmer and grows beans and corn. Her mom lives and works elsewhere so her grandma is the primary caregiver. She lives in a two room house made of rocks, dirt and tin. They do not have running water or an outhouse however they only have to walk 5 minutes to get water. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk but then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

Jakisson

He is 20 months and weighed 20 pounds when admitted. He also came having a 101 temperature, was dehydrated, and was rated at a -2 SD(-4 is the worst) with his kwashiokor. On the day he arrived, he ate rice with sauce and some juice. The day before, he just had rice. It took them 4 hours to get here on moto. He lives and was brought in by his aunt because he has no father and him mom ran away to the Dominican Republic. He lives in a 2 room house, which they rent, with 3 other people. They get there water from a pump that is 10 minutes away and they also have an outhouse. He is currently in the Medika Mamba program.

Romeline

She is 8 years old and weighed 40 pounds when admitted. She was initially in our outpatient Medika Mamba program but was admitted because of a large abscess behind her ear which we have been doing daily dressing changes on. She was continued on the inpatient Medika Mamba program when admitted to increase her weight. She travelled 1 hour to get here on both car and moto. Her grandma is her main care giver because both of her parents have died. She lives in a 1 room house, made of rocks and wood, with 7 other people. They do not have an outhouse or any running water for a toilet. It takes them 1 hour to go and get water. The day of her arrival, she had nothing to eat and the day before she had oatmeal and rice.

Blandine

She is 3 years old and weighed 22 pounds. She came in because she had been having diarrhea and was vomiting for several days already. There was also a lot of swelling from her kwashiokor. She came in with her aunt from 5 hours away. They had taken both moto and car to get here. She does not have any parents as her mom had died around 3 years ago from cholera and her dad has not been seen for years. She lives in a 1 bedroom house, made of rocks and tin, with 6 other people. They do have an outhouse however, it is a 10 minute walk to get water. The day she arrived she did not have anything to eat and the day before she had rice with sauce. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.

She is 4 years old and weighed 23 pounds when admitted. She came in swollen from kwashiokor, had a stomach ache and was bloated in her abdomen. The day of her arrival, she had eaten rice and vegetables. The day before she had some rice and beans. It took them 4 hours to arrive here on moto. Her grandmother is the main caregiver however both of her parents are still living. She has one other sibling. They live in a two room house made of dirt. They do not have an outhouse or any running water so it takes them 1 hour to get there water. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk but then graduated to the Medika Mamba program.
