New Admits to the Rescue Center

FRANDET

He is 20 months old and weighs 18 pounds.  He was admitted for a large abscess that he had on his chest.  His family lives about a 4 hour 1 way walk from the clinic and they could not come each day for dressing changes.  His dad died of cholera and his mama is raising him and his 4 siblings.  She has a garden where she grows beans and corn.  The family lives in a 1 room home made of rock, clay and tin. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet or even and outhouse.  They get water from a source that is a 30 minute walk from the home.  He does not have any other illness besides the abscess and will return home once that is healed.  We will add him to our Friday outpatient program as well.

JOKENSON

He is 30 months old and weighs 21 pounds.  He has been following in the clinic since he was a baby and weighed 21 pounds when he was 8 months old.  He began to decline and lose weight when his mama stopped breast feeding at 2 years old.  The family of 5 lives in a 2 room home made of rock and tin.  They do not have running water at their home, or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  His mama and papa are both farmers and grow beans and corn.  This past week he has ate spaghetti 3 times, rice twice and corn mush 2 times.  He  had coffee and crackers as well.  He began showing beginning signs of kwashiorkor about a weeks ago.  His mama is very worried about him and it was very difficult for her to see him so sick.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and stayed on that for 5 days.  When we switched him to the medika mamba he did not do well on it.  So we are giving him milk rich in protien and that is helping him in his healing process.
