Some of the new admits for the past few weeks

JACKENSON

He is almost 5 years old and weighs 21 pounds.  He was following the the outpatient program and began to have some swelling from kwashiorkor and was losing weight so his mama asked if he could be admitted for inpatient care for a few months.  His father’s mental state  has become increasing worse in the past few months to the point that he is living out in the weeds and his family is unable to control him much.  This has put a great strain on the family.  His mama is trying to continue to tend to the garden that they have.  Currently they are growing beans and corn.  Jackenson has 4 living siblings and 1 that died from stomach pain.  The family of 6 lives in a 3 room home made from rock, clay and tin.  They do not have running water in their home, or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They get there water from a piped line that is close to their home.  The day he was admitted he had fish to eat and the day before corn.  This is his 3rd time with kwashiorkor.  He is able to stand and walk some with assistance.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba.

ROSE-DARLINE & ROSE-DARLENE

They are twins that are 26 months old.  One weighs 13 pounds and the other is 16 pounds.  Rose-Darline was admitted to our inpatient program several months ago but after a day her mom came back and got her because she did not want the girls to be apart.  We did not see her for several months and then she returned for a visit, the girls were really sick but she wanted to follow in the outpatient program for a few weeks to see how they would do.  The next week both girls and another sibling got cholera.  They were both very ill and stayed at the cholera hospital for about a week.  Their mom tried again at home with them but their little bodies has been through so much and they both developed kwashiorkor.  They were then admitted into the inpatient program.  The family of 5 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, clay and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is just a few minutes away from the home.  They have a garden where they grow bananas and beans.  The day they were admitted they had cheese puff and some milk.  Neither of them are able to walk but can sit and crawl some.  They were both started in the F-75 milk and then graduted to the medika mamba.
