Trees from USAID Grant

The community group received 1722 mango, 1000 citrus, 1000 avocado, and 290 coconut trees through the WINNER/USAID project in the area.  This was an in-kind grant of  $10,546 US.  This is a huge benefit for many farmers around here.  These are large and healthy seedlings that we will be distributing around the village and valley.  Some of these trees will be producing fruit to eat and sell within 5 yrs.  There was only one catch.  We had to go pick them up at the office.  There were 18 group members that volunteered to load, unload, and organize the seedlings.  This took many trips and cost $450 to rent the truck.  This was not in our budget, but we hated to let this opportunity go.  If you would like to help with these costs, you can send it through paypal (make sure to put “community group” in the memo).  We hope that our nursery will produce many more trees, but these will give us a great start in planting fruit trees in the area.  We hope to begin distribution next week and hope to share picture of that.  (if the internet cooperates)
