New Admits to the Rescue Center

DAVE

Dave was admitted at 15 pounds and was severely malnourished also with kwashiorkor.  He has been sick on and off for several months with fever, diarrhea, cold and vomiting. He followed in the clinic for a few months and then he abandoned treatment.  He then become worse and developed kwashiorkor. He has one living sibling that lives with an aunt.  They live in a one room home made of tin and rocks. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. They get their water from an irrigation ditch or purchase it.  The family travels 4 hours but motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.

CHRISTELLE

Christelle’s mom died last year.  Her dad died several year ago.  She has been living with her grandma since then.  She has 2 other siblings at home. The family are farmers and grow beans and corn in their gardens.  She lives with 6 other family members in a 3 room home made of rocks and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is a one hour walk from their home.  The traveled 2 hours by motorcycle to arrive at the clinic. Besides being malnourished she also tested positive for malaria.

CHRSIMONT

Chrismont is 2 years old and weighs 19 ½ pounds.  He has kwashiorkor and malnutrition. He was also admitted with diarrhea and fever.  He has 2 living siblings at home and his mom is currently pregnant. He lives with his siblings and parents in a 2 room home made of dirt, rocks and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is about a 5-minute walk from their home.  The parents are farmers and grow beans, corn and pumpkins in their gardens. They traveled 4 hours by taxi and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.

CHRISNAICA

Chrisnaica is 2 ½ years old and weighs 18 pounds.  She has kwashiorkor and malnutrition.  She was also admitted with fever, diarrhea and vomiting. Her parents do not live together and she has been living with her dad for several months.  She became sick at his home and he sent for the mom to come get her. The mom does not have a place to stay and is living on someone porch.  She helps plants gardens with melons, beans and grains. She has been giving her daughter tea in the morning and trying to make one meal a day for her.  She was admitted for inpatient care while the mom will be searching for a place for them to live.

MAUDELINE

Maudeline was admitted with severe kwashiorkor and malnutrition.  She is 3 years and old and weighed 19 pounds when admitted. Several pounds of that weight was due to edema from her kwashiorkor.  She has 2 livings siblings and 3 that have died. Her mom and dad both live in the home with her and her siblings. The live in a 1 room home made of rocks, dirt and brush. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. They get their water from a source that is about a 30-minute walk from their home. The parents are both farmers and grow beans corn and potatoes in their garden. The traveled by foot and motorcycle in arrive at the clinic.

BIG

Big’s mom died when he was 2 months old.  After his mom died he was being cared for by his grandma.  The dad had just been to visit him twice since the mom died.  He said when he visited him 2 months ago he was doing well.  But when he went this past month that Big was very sick. They decided that he needed to go to a hospital quickly.  It is difficult to know his history as the grandma did not come with him to the clinic. They did travel 4 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. He is 10 months old and weighed 11 pounds when admitted.
