Miriana has been with us on and off since 2004. She is currently 10 years old and weighs 24 pounds. We found out about a few years ago that she was HIV +. We have been working with her family these past few years. When she gets very sick, they bring her down to the RC for a few weeks and then she returns home. The family only lives about a 30 minute walk from us. Not to far.
A few weeks ago one of the nannies that took care of her was passing by her house and asked to visit her. She was near death. She could not sit up or walk and was very weak. The nanny asked the dad to bring her down to the clinic. He brought her down 2 days later. The simple question is “why”? Why wait until she is almost dead before you seek help. Why? Why? Why? Dad admitted her and left. A few hours later Miriana began having fits of anger and yelling. She was mad. She was upset. She was hurting. She said many, many things that day that gave us a better understanding of what she had been through these past months.
Lots and lots of cultural things and ideas that to me just do not make sense. We are trying to treat her in a place that does not have many resouces for children with HIV. We are trying are best to make the right decisions along side her family. Sometimes the right and best answer to us is not what the family wishes. For now we are doing our best to keep her living. I know many of you that have visited over the years know this sweet little gal. I ask today that you simple pray for God to help her. This is not simply a sickness with her there are lots of spiritual things going on as well. Will you lift her up in prayer today?
