We want to thank Mary for masterfully making this video that explains the cholera situation here.
Our numbers have been going up lately. We have treated over 1200 pts since November.
That’s a lot of lines for some people to sort out. Here is a better breakdown. This is our total pts per day.
Here is our bed count at 6pm. One day last week there was 30 pts during the day, but we could send some of them home to drink ORS and come back the next morning.
This last surge of cholera patients came from basically three villages. Two are close. The other is clear over on a different mountain. We have so many come in cold and unconscious this past week. The villages are far away and there are only foot paths. Everyone was tied onto doors with sheets and scrap cloth and carried about 2 hours to get treatment. We have been having more rain, so we are nervous for things to come. The rainy season really starts in May.
Though March was our slowest month, we had two deaths – an older man and a small baby. The man had been in the cholera house for 4 days and was basically treated for cholera. He was better and should have went home the next day. He quickly went downhill in the middle of the night – unconscious and shallow breathing. They call me and I went right up, but there was nothing I could do at that point. He died about 10 minutes later. The little boy had been crying in pain since the morning. Since he had diarrhea too, his mom bought him to the cholera house. We gave him lots of different medications for pain, stomachache, and gas. He was doing better and then woke up around 11pm screaming. They called and I went right up, but he died before I got there. I’m not sure what happened to him either.
We are so thankful to Christian Aid Ministries, Love-A-Child, Dr. Jen Halverson, and many others that continue to help us with supplies, medications, and support. We could not do this without the help of so many great donors. We are grateful that you continue to put materials in our hands to care for so many. The functioning body of Christ is a beautiful thing. All for HIS Glory!
