KENISON
He 4 years old and weighs 27 pounds. Kenison and his three siblings all had cholera. The others recovered but he is not doing as well. He is very swollen and will be in our cholera recovery room for several weeks.
NOEL
He is 9 years old and weighs 45 pounds, he is recovering from cholera. His mama tells us that he was malnourished and had a slight case of kwashiorkor before cholera. Noel has 2 other siblings at home. He also has lost 1 sibling to kwashiorkor. He is currently in our cholera recovery room.
RITCHINA
She is 7 months old and weighs 10 pounds. She is an only child. Her mom is pregnant with another child and stopped breastfeeding her due to this.
WIDELANDE
She is 13 months old and weighs 16 pounds. She has two other older siblings at home and one that has died. Her mom died suddenly last month. Her dad is a farmer and does not have anyone that can care for her when she is so young. He continues to work in the fields to provide for his other kids. Widelande will stay here until she is walking and then her dad will take her back home.
VILHOMME
He is 7 months old and weighs 16 pounds. He has 5 siblings that are alive and 1 that has died. This is is uncle in the picture. His parent are both older and the family thinks the mom died from a heart attack. They only want us to keep Vilhomme for a few months. They will then be able to find someone in the family to care for him.
WITCHY
He was 21 months old and weighted 17 pounds. He was brought in by a lady that said she was his aunt. We asked her to stay for a few hours because we could see Witchy was dying. She left without telling anyone and gave false phone numbers. Witchy died on the table in the dressing room shortly after being admitted.
MAKENS
Makens was very sick when he arrived. He was on IVs, feeding tube and multiple medication. He did not make it and died.
CHRISTOPHER
He is 27 months old and weighs 16 pounds. His mom was very worried about him. She had been to several other places looking for help for him. He just kept getting worse. We started him on an IV right away. His biggest problem is bad diar. We tested him for cholera and it was negative. We are giving him meds and hoping that he will begin to gain weight.
SERETTE
She is 15 years old and is very, very swollen. She got here on Wednesday morning. She is from on the other side of the island. He mom explained to us that they have been to many different places to try and find medical care. Each place gives them a prescription for a pain med and tells them they cannot help her. Every time she laysdown she begins gasping for air. Dr Jen, Paul and I talked to them, spent time with them and listened to them. We currently have her in a corner of a consultation room in the clinic on a cot. Her mom was in tears thanking us for treating them like people and not animals. She said everyplace she goes they made them feel bad and no one cares if her daughter dies. Such a small thing to talk to them and listen to them and love of them. But for many it is something they will not forget.
DANIELESE
She is from very far away. She has no children and her husband left her many years ago. She was living with some extended family. About 9 months ago she started having problems with her foot. She did not seek medical care and now her foot is very bad. There are toes getting ready to fall off and lots of very infected and dead skin. She will need to get her foot amputated. She has been staying here since Wednesday. We are planning to send her into a hospital this Monday. We planned to send her in Thursday and Friday but had others that were traveling to hospitals that were sicker. We had a child with a hmg of 3. RHFH staff has spend 2 days trying to get blood for her at a blood bank. We are hoping they can find some today. She is in a hospital in Port-au-Prince.
LIDES
Lides was at the cholera house. He became sick. He was rushed to a peds hospital in Port. They did not do anything and was brought back to Cazale. We have been treating him here. He was in a coma like state for several days. He was having high fevers and seizures. He is getting better each day. He cannot hold his neck up but we are working with him and praying that he improves.
MIRLENE
I posted about here a few weeks ago. This is her second time back in the RC. She has not been doing well this past week and then tested positive for Cholera. Paul is caring for her and trying to get her well.
We also have a young man that had cholera. He was very ill and ended up have 65 bags of IV fluid. That is a lot. He is having some other health issues not related to the cholera. These two are bunking in the medicine supply room.
This mama in the white shirt has two terrible breast abcesses. Her baby girl and her mama stayed with us here at RHFH for about 5 weeks. She is recovered and returned home this week. She has decided to move back home with her parents. The father of the baby never came and visited her and he was physically abusing her even during her pregnancy. She had a very painful recovery but was a joy to have here at RHFH.
I think that is enough for today. 🙂
