Stretchers

North American Rescue generously donated 50 Raven model 90C litters for use in the cholera hospital and clinic.

These are important in transporting many cholera patients to the treatment center.

The patients are able to be carried safely and with ease over rural mountain paths to the cholera treatment center (CTC).

We expect that these litters will be used for many years to come to transport a variety of ill patients to get needed attention for cholera, cuts, broken bones, strokes, and other debilitating conditions.

Since 1998, Real Hope For Haiti has been providing medical for over 114,000 people in a rural area called Cazale, approximately 1 ½ hours north of the capital of Port-Au-Prince.

Our cholera hospital has treated 4647 cholera patients since November 9, 2010.

There have been 12 people that have died in our center and many while still at home.

We have sent 12 health educators out to 39 villages to give over 45,000 people education on cholera prevention and treatment.

Currently, our 50 bed hospital is seeing about 5-8 new patients daily.  Over the past month, we have seen a decrease in the spread of cholera.  During the summer months, we averaged 80-100 inpatients per night.

We have a Haitian staff that does a wonderful job in caring for these cholera patients.

There are 12 cholera brigadiers that find and begin treatment for cholera victims.

When the patient is too severely dehydrated and in need of IV fluids, they are transported to the Cazale CTC on these donated stretchers.

We are proud to provide excellent and compassionate care to all cholera patients free of charge.

Prior to using these litters, family and health care workers used doors, bed frames, and boards.

These were heavy and awkward to carry on the steep dirt paths.

These stretchers are helping the patients, staff, and the surrounding community.

We appreciate this donation of a very practical and needed item.

The stretchers are lightweight and sturdy.

The patient feels secure when the straps are fastened well.

We are grateful for this convenient and beneficial contribution.

The cholera hospital could not do what it does without the generous support of caring individuals, organizations, and businesses.  A BIG THANKS to all that were involved!!!!

That is wonderful news. Those litters are great tools and will make patient transport far more effective than bed frames and cots.

It really is an amazing donation and so good to see how they are put to use. I forgot the part about being strapped in and how much that must be reassuring to everyone trying to make it down the mountain.

    Blessings to all involved.

Eddie says these are similar to litters he used in the military and they found them to be very successful. He especially said they are easy to sanitize which is so important with cholera patients!
    love ya!
