Lots of kids returning to their families this month

There have been a lot of children that have went home this past month.  The  majority of them are pictured below.  Please note that a high majority of the children are admitted with kwashiorkor, due to this many of them have a beginning weight (when they are swollen) and then a lowest weight (when they have lost that “water weight”).  I want you to see how much some of the kids have to lose before they begin to regain muscle and fat.

 ANELIE & SENDI

They were with us for 2 months

Anelie was admitted with post-partum cardiomyopathy.  She was very, very swollen and weighed 135 pounds.  After recovering she weighed 89 pounds.  She comes every 2 days to get dressing changes on her leg.  Her leg was so swollen that it developed and area where it did not have good blood flow and several layers of skin died.  She was ready to go home with her kids.  She was so happy and had bonded so well with her little baby Sendi.  Sadly Sendi died 2 days later.  She developed diar in the middle of the night and her mom could not find anyone to help bring her to the clinic. She was trying to get here early one morning and she died in her arms on the way here.  Afraid she would be kicked out of the taxi, she held her until she got to the clinic.  She handed over Sendi to Yanick, a nurse, and began screaming in mourning the loss of her daughter. Sendi was 4 1/2 pounds when admitted and went home at 7 1/2 pounds.

 MIRLENE

2 years old-this was her second time with us at the RC, she stayed 5 months this time

Mirlene was very sick when Paul was here.  She also had cholera.  Paul took care of her  during some crazy times with lots of other patients.  She recovered and is returning home with her family. If she could talk I think she would say thank youPaul for giving me fluids every 15 minutes and taking care of me when I was so sick-even if I never smiled at you. 🙂

I will be praying for these kiddos. I am amazed at how different Madeline looks from even last spring when I was there. You guys do amazing work with these kids. I am so glad that so many kids can be reunited with their families instead of being made orphans due to their parents desperate situation. YOU ROCK, LICIA AND LORI!

You do AMAZING work. Glory to God for His miracles in these precious childrens’ lives. The transformation is unreal.

God bless your work. Stay strong. I love your blog. I have been to Haiti two times – one to do a medical mobile clinic and another time last Feb. to work in Cite Soliel at a Cholera hospital. I am praying for you and your work.

    Blessings,
    Kelly in Michigan
