JN LUTHERS

He is almost 4 years old.  He weighs 26 pounds and this is his second time with kwashiorkor.  He has 5 living siblings at home and 2 that have died from kwashiorkor.  He is currently on the medika mamba program.

This is his mom and 2 of his siblings.  The boy in the blue shirts is his oldest brother.  He told us that mom goes to the market to sell produces almost every single day.  She arrives home late in the evenings well after dark.  It is his responsibility to make food and care for his siblings.  His mom was mad at him because he wants to play with his friends and not make food and take care of his brothers and sisters.  He is still a kid himself.  Hard decisions for the parents and children in these families.

ERLINE

She is 16 months old.  She weighs 18 pounds.  This is her first time with kwashiorkor.  She has 2 siblings at home.  Her aunt found her at her mothers house.  The mom did not believe that she was that sick.  The aunt decide that she was sick and brought her to the clinic.  She has been struggling eachday to just live. 

FRANCESCA

Her mother died when she was first born.  Her dad needs to continue working to provide for his other children.  He has a job and is thankful for that.  But he is unable to find someone to care for Francesca when she is this young. She is 2 months old and weighs 12 pounds.

DIEUNEL

He is 4 years old and weighs 21 pounds.  He has 5 siblings that have died, several with kwashiorkor.  They are only 2 living siblings.  This is his first time with kwashiorkor. He is currently on the medika mamba program.

 CLENOR

He  has a HUGE abcess in his arm pit.  His family lives about and 7 hour walk from the clinic.  He needs daily dressing changes and IV medications.  He is staying with us for a short time to recover, receive medications, and have daily dressing changes done.

 B.B. (Baby)~no name yet

This little 6 month old was brought to us from the mountain on the other side of the island.  A pastor found him living with his grandma.  His mother died several months ago.  He is 6 months old and weighs 10 pounds.  He also has a mild case of kwashiorkor. He is currently on the medika mamba program.

 ANDRENEL

This little sweet guy is 6 years old and weighs 30 pounds.  The tops of his feet are spilt open and leaking fluids from his severe kwashiorkor.  He told us this week that he knows he is going to die.  He asked me if I could please send him home so he can die with his siblings.

 DIMENE

She is 11 months old and weighs 12 pounds 8 ounces.  She has mild kwashiorkor.  She is an only child.  She is currently living with her grandmother.  The grandmother is the one who brought her to the clinic. 

WIDELINE

She was one month old and weighed 2 pounds 14 ounces.  The staff at GLA worked hard this week to keep her alive but she went to be with Jesus yesterday.  We so appreciate their willingness to continue taking these little babies from our area.  We believe 100% in what they do and are so grateful to them. Thank you Susan for trying so hard.
