We wanted to thank each of you that gave for the special need for these 2 surgeries.  Both children were able to get help and are now  recovering.   

From Dr Jen : Renia had surgery to remove the entire neck mass yesterday (Sept 24th). The mass was wrapped around her carotid artery and the surgery was very difficult. She is having a lot of issues post-operatively including vital sign instability, fevers, and pain. Thanks to a Heartline volunteer who gave blood on Renia’s behalf today, we were able to bring blood to the hospital for Renia. I believe she received the transfusion this afternoon. I’ll update more as I know more. Renia’s mom is struggling…she has been fighting for her daughter for months and she is tired and discouraged. Many thanks to the hospital staff who has been taking care of Renia for the past 10 days!

Dieucel was admitted to a hospital in Port-au-Prince and had surgery on his knee.  He stayed in the hospital for a little over a week.  He healed well and was able to receive IV medications for his infection.  He will go back for a few return appointments with the hospital to make sure his knee heals well.

 Words from the papa:  I did not know what to do for my son’s knee.  I was scared and knew it was something serious.  I could not find any good help by my home and had to travel to the village of Cazale to see if someone would help me.  They sent me to a hospital in Port.  They even sent someone with me to make sure I got into the hospital and saw the right doctor.  I do not understand the kindness of these foreigners.  Even my people will not treat me that nice.  My son had the surgery, we could not pay for it, but the clinic took care of the cost of surgery and the medications.  My son is now healed and well.  I look up to heaven and tell Him thank you.  He sent someone to help my son.  I will never forget what God has done for me.

Unless you have seen it, it is difficult to understand and explain the system of health care here in Haiti.  It is difficult to find help.  It might require the families to travel a long distance to even see a doctor or nurse.  Many times they do not have the resources or medications needed to help those in needs.  If you do find a place that will help you have to purchase all the supplies needed even gloves, needles and sheets for the beds.   Many times it becomes a race again time to find someplace to help you.  We are grateful to Project Medishare (that is taking care of Renia) and Dikini Adventist Hospital (who took care of Dieucel).  They are doing great things here in Haiti with medical care for many, many sick people.
