New admits in the RC

 NADIA

She is 3 years old and weighs 17 pounds.  She stayed with us for about 3 weeks and gained 2 pounds.  Her mama came back to visit and decided that she wanted to take her back home.  She was not ready to go but we must respect the wishes of the families.  We hope that she will continue to follow in the clinic or find a place near her home that can continue to help her.

WISNER

He is 13 months old and weighs 11 pounds 2 ounces.  He lives in a 1 room home with 5 other people.  Their home is made of rock and tin.  They live about a 15 minute walk away from the local water source.  They do not have running water in their home or even an outhouse.  Wisner was very sick when he was admitted and have a temp of 104.4.  In the week before he was admitted he only ate soup made out of bread and salt.  He is currently on the medika mamba program.

 SANIACA

She is a little over 3 years old and weighs 17 pounds.  She is a very sick little girl and is fighting an infection with high fevers.  Her mama died when she was younger and things have gone down hill from there.  She has been living here and there with different family members.  Her caregiver tells us that she has been sick for over a month with fevers and constant diar.   This past week she ate rice 3 times, had coffee 3 mornings and ate some crackers.  She refused to eat anything and currently has an NG tube in.  Through the tube we are able to give her her daily dose of medika mamba.

OLWITCH

This little peanut just was with us for a day.  She was a born in the mountains with a twin that died right after it was born. She was transfered to GLA the next day.  Her mama went with her so that she could pump breast milk for her.  She continues to do well at GLA.

CARICHINA

She is 3 years old and weighs 22 pounds.  She has a severe case of kwashiorkor.  She was referred to us from our friend Anita who lives in Gonaives.  Her case is a strange one to understand.  Her family runs several big gardens that produce rice and green peppers.  Her father works with wood and her mother buy and resells things.  They live in a 2 room home made of block and tin.  They have a spiket for water in their front yard and an outhouse.  She has been sick like this for several months on and off and just got really bad in the past few weeks.  She was even in a hospital near her home.  They released her and told the parents she did not have an illness but just needed to eat.  We are hopeful that she will recover and we will be able to help her parents understand the correct foods to feed her. She is currently on the medika mamba program.

 GESNELINE

She was 2 years old and weighted 16 pounds.  She  was severely neglected and very abused by her family.  She was with us for a short time but left a lasting impression on us that we will not forget.

 SCHNAIDER

He is 6 months old and weighs 11 pounds 8 ounces.  When he was 3 months old his birth mother left him at her mom’s (his grandma’s) house and they have not seen her since.  Grandma does not know who the papa is.  Grandma came to the clinic when Schnaider was 4 months old.  She asked us then if we would take him.  He was a normal weight for his age and looked well.  We decided to try to treat him on an outpatient basis for a few months.  We would give grandma infant formula for him.  For 2 months he continued to lose weight and developed kwashiorkor.  He is currently on the medika mamba program.

 TANAICHA

She came into the clinic on a Tuesday with O2 stats in the 60’s.  Her mama said she was just sick for a few days.  She was on oxygen and meds for 5 days and then was able to go home with her mama.  She will follow up in a week in the clinic.
