ONEL

He is 18 years old and weighs 68 pounds.  He lives with his sister who is a school teachers.  He has been losing weight the past few months and does not feel like eating anything.  His sister fixes food for him each morning before she leaves but he does not eat. She provides most of the income for the family and cannot stay home from work to care for him.  His other family members do not live near them.  They live in a 2 room home made of tin, rocks and clay.  They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, not even and outhouse.  The source where they get their water is a 1 hour walk from the home.

ISLANDE

She  is 3 years old and weighs 20 pounds.  Her mother died several months ago after being sick for 4 months.  Her dad has been taking care of her and one other siblings since then by himself.  He is a farmer and grows beans and corn in his garden.  The family of 8 lives in a 2 room made from rock, clay and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  The source where they get water is close to their home which they are thankful for.  Islande was started of the F-75 therapeutic milk for several days and then switched to medika mamba.

ESLENE

She is 2 years old and weighs 20 pounds.  Eslene was sitting by the open fire while her mom was cooking corn mush.  The pot fell onto her legs and feet.  Her mom and dad are both farmers and plant beans, corn and bananas.  The 5 family members live in a one room home made from tarp and sticks.  They get their water from a source that is about 30 minutes away from their home.  They do not have running water or a flush toilet at home, they do have an outhouse.  She came to the clinic 5 days after the burn, she had a very high fever at the time.

MERLINE

She is 9 months old and weighs 9 pounds.  Her dad died several months ago after having a bad fever for several days.  She has 3 other sisters that live at home with the mama, there are no living brothers.  Her only brother died when he was a baby of fever.  The family of 5 lives in a 2 room home made of rock, clay and tin. Their home does not have running water or a flush toilet, they do not have an outhouse at their home.  There source of water is not far from their home only about a 3 minute walk.    The mother has a garden and she grows beans, corn and yams. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

CHARELSON

This little guy  is less than 1 month old and weighs just over 4 pounds.  His mama was very sick and was admitted to the cholera hospital.  His family lives in a one room home made from a tarp and sticks.  His parents work in the gardens planting beans and bananas.

MARIE-LOURDES

She is 2 years old and weighs 17 pounds.  She was referred to us by CHI.  She has 2 other sisters at home.  The family of 7 live in a 1 room home made of rock and tin.  They get their water from a source that is about 5 minutes from their home.  They do not have running water at their house or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  In the past week she ate meat once, had rice 4 times, and drank coffee each morning.  This is her first time with kwashiorkor.  She drank the F-75 therapeutic milk for several days and then was graduated to the medika mamba program.

ST. MILIENE

She was following in the clinic each day for dressing changes for several abscesses that she has.  St. Miliene and her mother were staying with some friends here in the village but her mother needed to go back up to her home in the mountains to take care of the 5 other child.  We offered for her to stay here for a short time until she is healed and can return home.  She lives in a 2 room home made of tin, rocks and clay with her parent and siblings.  She does not have running water at he home or a flush toilet.  She does not have an outhouse.

WIDELINE

She is 2 years old and weighs 16 pounds 12 ounces.   She has been sick for awhile now but has been swollen with kwashiorkor for about 3 weeks.  She lives in a 2 room home with 4 others made of clay, rock and tin.  Her parents are farmers and grow beans, corn and yams.  She does not have running water at her home or a flush toilet, but does have an outhouse.  The source where they get water is about a 10 minute walk from their home. In the past week before she was admitted she had rice twice, and soup and coffee each day.  Shew as on the F-75 therapeutic milk for several days and is now on the medika mamba program.

 JADELINE

His mama died shortly after he was born.  His papa works in the gardens and plants corn and sweet potatoes.  He has 1 living sister and another sibling that died of fever when they were a baby.  The family of 7 live in a 4 room home made of rock, dirt and tin.  There water comes from a river that is about a 20 minute walk from their home. They cannot find a family member that has time to take care of him.  Everyone is trying to work to provide for themselves and the other kids.

LOVENA

She is 15 months old and weighs 10 pounds 10 ounces.  She was following in an outpatient medika mamba program ran by Bread to the Nations and was not making much progress.  Her mother also died recently and an aunt became her main caregiver.  She was admitted with a 106 fever as well.  Her caregiver has a garden and grows beans and corn.  She lives in a 2 room home with 8 other family members.  In the past week she has ate very little but the mamba that was provided to her.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk for several days and then graduated back over to the medika mamba.

BERTO

He is 16 months old and weighs 10 pounds.  His parents are both farmers and grow beans, corn, greens and pumpkins.  The family of 9 live in a 3 room home made of rocks, clay and tin. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, they do have an outhouse.  The source from where they get all there water is a one hour walk from their home.   The day he was admitted he did not have anything to eat that day.  The weeks before he was admitted he had milk 1 time, chicken 1 time, rice 4 times and corn meal 2 times.  He mama says that he will eat whatever food is offered to him but they so not have a lot.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba.

EDLINE

She is 13 months old and weighs 12 pounds.  She lives in a 4 room home built of block and tin with 5 of her family members.  They do not have running water at their home but do have a flush toilet.  They get their water from a hand pump about  10 minutes from their home.  Her papa is a farmer and grows corn and beans at his home.  Her mother buys in bulk and resells items for a profit.  She has been having fever and diarrhea  for 8 days now and refuses to eat anything.  She only will drink water and juice.    We started her on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated her to the medika mamba after a few days.

There were 12 deaths in the last month her at RHFH.  We will not forget Fabienne, Bingelai, Ronalson, Enelson, Fania, Stanley, Widnie,  Charline,  Juvenskly. Widlene, Chrislyne,  and Fabiano.
