FRANCESCA

She is 17 months old and weighs 16 pounds.  She had been following in an outpatient medika mamba program ran by Bread to the Nations  in Carrfour but was not gaining weight well or improving.  She is the only child.  Her mother buys items in bulk and resells them to make a small profit to provide for the family.  There are 4 people that live in her one room home made of block and tin.  They have a piped water line that is about 5 minutes away from their home to get water at.  They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  For over a months she has had fever, cold, cough and  watery diarrhea.  Her mom also thinks she has worms.  Over the past few months her hair has become brittle and began to fall out.  At 17 months she is unable to stand or walk on her own.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba.

JOHANNE

Her mother contracted cholera and was not well for several days.  Johanne was born early and weighted in at 3 pounds when admitted.   Her mother has had 3 other children that have died from diarrhea and fever over the years.  Johanne’s parents are farmer and grow corn and potatoes in the fields.  The family of 4 live in a 4 room home made of block and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet.  They have to walk 30 minutes to get to the nearest source of water.  They carry the water back home in five gallon buckets on their heads.  We were blessed to have 2 volunteers with us for the past few weeks  providing 24/7 care for her.  She just hit the 4 pound mark this week!

KENIA TRACY

She is 2 years old and weighs 2o pounds.  She is an only child of the parents.  They work in Port-au-Prince and left her with grandma in the providence to provide care for her.  It had been over a month since they last saw her and got a call that she was sick.  She has a very serious case of kwashiorkor among several other problems.  Her parent have running water at their home they rent in town.  Her skin was split and open in several places.

She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program

LOVELIE

She is 8 months old and weighs 10 pounds.  She has a mild case of kwashiorkor, fever, cold and watery diarrhea.  The family of 7 live in a one room home made from tarp and sticks.  They do not have running water at the home or a flush toilet, but are able to use an outhouse nearby.  In the past weeks before she was admitted, she had soup, crackers and oatmeal.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program. (she was also referred by Bread to the Nations)

 WOODSON

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 21 pounds.  He tested positive for Typhoid and sickle cell and is also very anemic and has worms.  His family says he has had fever, diarrhea and vomiting for 4 months.  He has a mild case of kwashiorkor.  He has been to several hospital and clinics near his home but has not been able to find a solution for his illness.  They have all told the parents that he just needs to eat more food. His family of 6 lives in a 2 room home made of tin and block.  They get their water from a well near the home.  They do not have a running water at their home or a flush toilet.   He is currently being treated and on the medika mamba program. ODINEL

He is 14 months old and weighs 12 pounds 3 ounces.  The family of 4 lives in a 1 room home made of dirt, rocks and tin.  They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet.  They get their water from a pond that is about 5 minutes away from their home.  They have already lost one child to malnutrition.    The parents have a garden where they grow beans and corn.  The mother tells us he was been sick for 4 months with cold, fever, diarrhea and no appetite.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba.

DANIELISE

She is 26 months old and weighs 16 pounds.  She has kwashiorkor, diarrhea, cold & cough and fever.  She was refereed to us from CHI.  The family of 5 lives in a 3 room home made of rocks and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet.  They get their water from a source that is only a few minutes away from their home.  In the past week he has had rice 3 times, corn mush 2 times and ate mango and crackers.  The days he was admitted he had not had anything to eat.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the meidka mamba.

STEEVENSON

He was here with us at RHFH back in 2010.  Here is his before and after picture.  He has been doing well and growing along these past few years.

About 1 week ago he started having pain in his ear and a abscess developed behind his ear.  It got so bad that his eyes were swollen shut.  He is staying with us due to his family living so far away for daily dressing changes.   Once he is healed he can return home with his family.
