CHARLIN

He was referred to us from Tytoo Gardens Ministries     He is just one month old and had been to 2 different hospital  for a very serious skin infection.  He has several large areas on his bad that has lots of dead necrotic skin.  He get daily dressing changes while here and is on medications for his healing process. He has 4 other living siblings at home.  The family of 8 lives in a 1 room home made from sticks and tarp. They do not have running water in their home, or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from piped system that is near their home.  The family has a average monthly income of $80US.  He will be here for several month during his healing process.

CLIVENSON

He is 21 months old and weighs 18 pounds.  He was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries.  He is the only child in the family.  He mama is pregnant with another child.   The family of 3 live in a 1 room home made of block, cement and tin that they rent.  They do not have running water at their home, or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The family has to purchase their water by 5 gallon buckets from a local water distribution center.   Besides being malnourished, he was admitted with a fever, stomachache and diarrhea.  This is his 3rd time with kwashiorkor.   The day before he was admitted he ate spaghetti, the day he was admitted he had crackers and water.  His mama traveled about 3 hours by motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

FINA

She is 2 1/2 years old and weighed 18 pounds when admitted.  Since that time she has lost 2 1/2 pounds of “water weight” from her kwashiorkor.  She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries.  She has 3 other living siblings at home and 1 that has died from kwashiorkor.  The family of 10 lives in a 1 room home made of block, cement and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from a hand pump that is near their home.  She was admitted with a fever and tested positive for malaria.  The day she was admitted she has juice and a banana to eat and the day before she before she has coffee and rice to eat.  The family’s  average monthly income is around $117US.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then started on the medika mamba program.

FRITZLANDE

She is 11 months old and weighs 8 pounds.  She was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries.  Her mama died in childbirth and she was being cared for by extended family.  She is an only child.  Fritzlande lives with 5 other family members in a one room tent.  They do not have running water at their home, or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They buy their water from a place that is a 30 minute walk from their home.  The day she was admitted she had not had anything to eat and the day before she had milk.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

He is 14 months old and weighs 15 pounds. He was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries.  He has 3 living siblings at home.  The family lives in a one room home made from tarp and sticks. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  His mama does not work and his papa carries heavy load for people in a wheelbarrow.  The day he was admitted he has not had anything to eat and the day before a plate of rice.  It took the family about 4 hours to arrive at the clinic by motorcycle and taxi.  The family has an average income of $80US.  He was started on the F-75 milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

LOUDIANA

She is 3 years old and weighs 31 pounds.  She has been on the outpatient mamba program for 3 weeks and has not improved.  Her mama asked that we admit her for care.  She has 3 other livings siblings.  The family of 5 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, clay and tin.  They do not have running water at their home, or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They have to walk for 1 hour to find water.  1 hour.  Then fill up their buckets and carry it back home.  This is her first time with kwashiorkor.  The day she was admitted she had a plate of rice, and the day before a plate of rice with bean sauce.  The mama walked about 1 hour and had a mule carry Loudiana to the clinic.  The family has an average income of around $70US per month.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

MARIE ESTHER

She is 15 months old and weighs 13 pounds.  She was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries.  She has 1 living sibling at home.  The family of 4 lives in a 1 room home made of block, cement and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The day she was admitted she had peanut butter and the day before soup.  She was started in the F-75 milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

He is 12 months old and weighs 12 pounds.  He was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries.  His mama abandoned him at his grandma’s house (papa side) and she has been trying to care for him for several months.  He has 2 other livings siblings at home as well.  The family of 10 lives in a 2 room home made of block, tin and cement.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They buy their water from vendors about a 10 minute walk from the home.  His grandma has had him in her care for three months and he has been losing a lot of weight since then.  She just does not have money to to purchase milk and food for him or the time to care for him.  The day he was admitted he had soup and the day before he ate a banana.  The family traveled for 3 hours by taxi and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.  The family’s average monthly income is about $57US.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

She is  2 1/2 years old and weighs 18 pounds.  She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries.  She was admitted with kwashiorkor,a cough and cold and watery diarrhea.   She has 6 living siblings at home and 1 that died.  The family lives in a 2 room tent.  They do not have running water at their home, or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They buy their water from a vendor that is about 5 minutes away from their home.  This is her 2nd time with kwashiorkor.  The day she was admitted she  a tampico juice to drink and nothing to eat and the day before she has medika mamba that was given to her.  The family’s average monthly income is around $57US. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then started on the medika mamba program.

 MICHAEL

He is 9 months old and weighs 13 pounds.  He was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries.  He comes from a family of 2 other siblings.  The family of 6 lives in a 1 room home made of tin and sticks.  They buy their water from a vendor that is about a 5 minute walk from their home. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  Michael was also admitted with very bad watery diarrhea, and a cold and cough.  The day he was admitted he has juice to drink and the day before nothing to eat or drink 🙁  The family’s average monthly income is around $110US.   He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

She is 2 years old and weighed 20 pounds when admitted.  She currently has lost 3 pounds of  “water weight” from her kwashiorkor.  Besides being severely malnourished she also tested positive for malaria.  Her feet were also so swollen they were leaking fluid.  The day she was admitted she a plate of rice, and the day before rice and bean sauce.  She has 2 living siblings and 3 that have died.  The family of 6 lives in a 2 room home made of tin, rocks, and clay.  They get their water from a piped water source that is about a 10 minute walk from their home.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The family walked for 4 hours 1 way to arrive at the clinic.   Her mama thinks that she has kwashiorkor because she drank bad breast milk.  The family’s average monthly income is $70US.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
