DONSKY

He is is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 28 1/2 pounds.  He has been sick for over a month with kwashiorkor. His mama thought he has a curse upon him and was trying to get the curse removed.  His edema got so bad that his foot split open. A neighbor was so frustrated with the mother for not seeking medical help that she brought her with Donsky to the clinic in search of a solution.   The family of 6 lives in a 1 room home made of tarps, stick and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The family gets their water from a piped system that is about a 5 minute walk from their home.  The day he was admitted he had crackers to eat and the day before he had a plate of rice.  The families average monthly income is $90US.  They live about a 30 minute walk away from the clinic.  He was started in the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to medika mamba.

KENLOVE

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 18 pounds 6 ounces.  He failed his appetite test for eating medika mamba.  His papa tried for 2 weeks to feed him better foods and milk but he became worse and so he returned with him.  The family lives 6 hours away from the clinic and traveled here by foot, motorcycle and taxi.  His parents are both farmers and grow beans, corn and grains in their gardens.  Kenlove has 2 living siblings and 1 that died when it was a newborn baby.  The day he was admitted he had milk and cheese puffs to eat.  The day before he was admitted he had soup to eat.  The families average income is $34US. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then was transferred to the medika mamba program.  He continues to eat the mamba well here.

MANA NADIA

She is 17 months old and weighs 17 pounds 14 ounces.  She was started on the outpatient medika mamba program and got worse and lost 2 pounds.  She has 1 living sibling and 1 that died of respiratory problems.  The families lives in a room home made of tin, rocks, and clay.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is a 1 hour walk from their home.  She has been having signs of kwashiorkor for about 2 months now.  She also has diarrhea, cold and cough.  The day she was admitted she had a plate of rice to eat and the day before she had crackers.  The families average monthly income is around $60US.  They traveled 2 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.  She was started of the F-75 therapeutic milk and then started on the medika mamba program.

MERLIENE

She is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 17 pounds 8 ounces.  She has 1 living sibling and 1 that has died of kwashiorkor.  The family lives in a 2 room home made of sticks, mud and tin.  They do not have running water at their home, or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  The family gets their water from a source that is about 5 minutes from their home.  Her parents are farmers and grow beans, corn and grains in their gardens.  She has been showing signs of kwashiorkor for about 2 weeks, she also has worms,  diarrhea, vomiting and cough.  The day she was admitted she had cheese puffs, the day before she has soup.  The families average monthly income is $34US.  They traveled 6 hours by foot to arrive at the clinic.  She was started on the F-75 therapeuptic milk and then transferred to the medika mamba program.

 MINELSON

He is 3 3/4 years old and weighs 23 pounds.  He was admitted with an O2 level in the 70’s and was unconscious. His papa carried him for 8 hours by foot, motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.  The parents are both farmers and grow corn and beans in their gardens. The family of 6 lives in a 1 room home made of sticks, clay and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is about a five minute walk from their home. The families average monthly income around $33US.  Besides being unconscious, he also has signs of kwashiorkor, fever, a terrible cough and worms. He was put on mediations and is slowly recovering.

ROBENSON

He is 14 months old and weighs 16 pounds 4 ounces.  He was referred to us by Children’s Health Ministries.  He started having blistering sores all over his body several days ago.  His papa builds houses and his mama buys items in bulk and resells them for a profit.  The family of 5 lives in a 1 room home made of sticks and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The day he was admitted he has soup to eat and the day before bean sauce. The families average monthly income is around $40US.  They traveled about 3 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. He was started on medications and F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika program.
