New Admits to the Rescue Center

OGERSON

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 21 pounds.  His mama has 9 other children and his papa left the family a little over a year ago.  His older sister, who lives on her own now, has been the one bringing him to the clinic.  The family lives in a 2 room home made of tin, rocks and clay.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. The day he was admitted he had potatoes to eat and the day before he had a plate of rice.  The families average monthly income is around $50US.  His sister traveled 1 hour by foot to arrive at the clinic.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

CLAULENE

She is 5 years old and weighs 16 pounds.  She has been following at our clinic since she was about 1 year old when we helped her get a cleft palate surgery.  Her papa died a few years ago and her mama abandoned her at an aunts house.  She is severely malnourished and very sick right now with 105 + temps. He little body is so sick already.  Her aunt brought her to the clinic and traveled about 1 1/2 hours by taxi and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.

MILINEDA

She is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 19 pounds 8 ounces.  She was in the outpatient medika mamba program but became worse and her mama asked that we admit her into the inpatient program.  Her parents are both farmers and grow beans, grains and corn in their gardens. She has 3 living siblings and 3 that have died.  Two died when they were little babies and one died of kwashiorkor.  They live in a 1 room home made of dirt, sticks and tin. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is a 4 hour walk from their home.  The families average monthly income is around $100US.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

JEANDELINE

She is 13 months old and weighs 16 pounds.  Her temp was 102 when admitted and she refused to eat medika mamba.  She is an only child to her parents.  Her parents are both farmers and grow beans, corn and grains in their gardens.  They do not have a home yet and live with the mama’s sister in a 2 room house.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is about a 20 minute walk from their home.  The families average monthly income is around $20US.  They traveled 2 hours by foot and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.  She was started on the F-75 milk and then graduated to the meidka mamba program.

DAPHNEE

She is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 24 pounds.  Since she was admitted she has lost 5 pounds of “water weight” from her edema.  She was admitted to the outpatient program in Sept of 2015.  Her mama came for 1 appointment and did not return and abandoned her treatment.  She returned at the beginning of Oct with a 103 temp, glucose levels in the 50’s and severe edema from her kwashiorkor.  She was then admitted into the inpatient program.  Her parents are farmers and grow beans, corn and bananas in their gardens.  The family of 4 lives in a 1 room home made of rocks, tin and clay.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  They purchase their water from a vendor near their home.  The day she was admitted she had nothing to eat and the day before he had a plate of rice.  The family traveled for about 1 hour by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

CLAVENS

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 22 pounds. He has been coming to the clinic on and off since he was 11 days old.  He began showing signs of malnutrition in May of 2015.   His mama told us he refused to eat medika mamba at home but eats it well here.  He has the beginning signs of kwashiorkor (edema in his feet and legs) and had a 101 temp when admitted.  The day he was admitted he had soup and a glass of juice.  They day before he has a plate of rice.  He has 7 living siblings at home.  Their 2 room home is made of rocks, clay and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from a source that is about a 10 minute walk from their home.  The families average monthly income is around $100US.  They walked about 30 minutes to arrive at the clinic.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
