They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. The day he was admitted he had crackers and cheese puffs to eat and the day before a plate of rice. The family traveled 2 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

She is 15 months old and weighs 13 pounds. She was referred to us from another mission here in Haiti. Her papa is a fisherman and her mama died shortly after she was born. FEDELINE
She is 17 months old and weighs 15 pounds 12 ounces. She had been having fever and signs of pneumonia for several days at her home. Three days ago she started have seizures on and off. The morning they came to the clinic she had been having seizures for several hours with no breaks. We were able to get them stopped, get medications started and get her on oxygen. Her papa is a farmer and grows grains, corn and beans in his garden. Her mama buys items in bulk and resells them for a profit. The family of 3 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, tin and cement. They get their water from a source that is about a 30-minute walk from their home. They traveled 3 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.
WILGUENS
He is 11 months old and weighs 13 pounds. His mama has been in the hospital for a few months now and is ill. He has been staying with his aunt since then. She wants to get the mama moved to a hospital that is closer to their home. She asks if we could keep him for a while so she could get things in order for the move and so that she could work some to help provide for her other children. His papa is a farmers and grows bananas and roots in his gardens. The family lives in a 2 room home made of block, tin and cement. The do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. The day he was admitted he has a 102 temp, diarrhea and ear infection. His aunt traveled 1 hour by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. He was started on the medika mamba program.
WESTENSON
He is 3 years old and weighs 17 pounds. This little guy’s glucose was only 40 when he arrived. He was referred to us from Children’s health Ministries. He also had a 105 temp, diarrhea and a cold. He has 2 living siblings and 1 that died when it was a newborn. His papa is a farmer and grows beans, corn and bananas in his garden. His mama buys items in bulk and resells them for a profit. The family of 12 lives in a 3 room home made of block, tin and cement. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. They purchase their water from a vendor that is near their home. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

She is 7 months old and weighs 12 pounds. She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries. Her mama stopped breastfeeding her about 1 month ago. She is now showing the beginning signs of kwashiorkor and has had a fever on and off for 2 weeks now. She has 1 living sister at home and one that died when it was a baby. Her mama cleans houses and her dad builds houses. The family lives in a 1 room home made of tarps and sticks. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. The families average monthly income is around $150US. They traveled 4 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
KERVENSON
He is 4 1/2 years old and weighs 29 pounds. He was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries. His edema has been going up and down for a few months now and got to its worse in November when he had general edema (legs, arms, feet and face) from the kwashiorkor. His mama is dead and his dad works and is not at home all the time. There are 2 other living siblings and 1 that died from a fever. The family lives in a room that they rent. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. The day he was admitted he had not had anything to eat and the day before he had a plate of rice to eat. The family traveled 3 hours from motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. He was started on the medika mamba program.
JUDELANDE
She is 16 months old and weighs 18 pounds. She is in the beginning stages of kwashiorkor and also has diarrhea, fever and vomiting. She was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries. She has one living siblings that has also be in our inpatient program. The family of 6 lives in a 1 room home made of dirt, rocks and tin. They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. They get their water from a piped system that is near their home. The day she was admitted she had a small piece of meat to eat and the day before she had nothing. The families average monthly income is around $120US. They traveled around 4 hours by taxi and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then transferred to the medika mamba program.
JONELSON
He is 2 years old and weighed 22 pounds when admitted. He has been following in our outpatient program for 2 months and was continuing to get worse. He mama become ill and was unable to come for his appointments. When he began to have edema from the kwashiorkor a neighbor volunteered to carry him on the 2 hour hike to the clinic. By that time his legs were so swollen that they split open behind his knees. He was also admitted with a 102 temp and vomiting. His parents are farmers and grow beans, corn and grains in their gardens. He has 2 other living siblings and the family of 5 lives in a 4 room home made of rocks, tin and cement. They do not have running water in their home or a flush toliet, not even an outhouse. They get their water from a source that is about a 10 minute walk from their home.
