GERVENS
He is 2 years old and weighed 20 pounds when admitted. He lost 2 pounds of “water weight” from his kwashiorkor. He was also admitted with a fever and diarrhea. He has 1 bother and 0 sisters. The family lives with extended family (13 people) in a four room home made of tin, rocks and clay. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. They get their water from a piped source that is near their home. The day he was admitted he had a plate of rice to eat and the day before soup. He was started on the medika mamba program.
HERVERLANDE
Herverlande is 6 years old and weighed 28 pounds when admitted. She lost three pounds of “water weight” due to her edema from her kwashiorkor. She has 2 sisters and 1 brother at home. The family of 6 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, clay and tin. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. They get their water from a source that is about a 10-minute walk from their home. Her parents are both farmers and grow beans, corn and pumpkins in their gardens. She has been sick for a few months now losing weight and began showing signs of kwashiorkor about 1 week ago. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program. Her family traveled 4 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic.
MILOUSE
She is 2 years old and weighs 15 pounds. She is very sick with diarrhea, high fevers, vomiting and a cold. Her parents are farmers and grow corn, beans and watercress in their gardens. She has 3 sisters and 1 brothers. The family lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, tin and clay. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. They get their water from a vendor that sells near their home. They traveled 4 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
SONELSON
Sonelson came to the clinic very sick and weak and unable to walk on his own. We suspected typhoid and started treatment. Since he was so sick we admitted him to our inpatient care facility. He has 4 sisters and 1 brother. The family lives in a 1 room home made of tarps and tin. His papa is a motorcycle/taxi driver and his mama buys items in bulk and resells them for a profit. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even and outhouse. They purchase their water in a nearby town. They traveled about 1.5 hours by motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.
EDNERSON
Ednerson is an 18-month old boy. He was admitted 5/5/16 for kwashiorkor and is classified as a -4, the lowest one can be, on the malnourishment scale. His mother was died in accident and he has been living with his father at his father’s uncle’s home with five rooms and six people. His father is a 23-year older interpreter. Enderson was 4.7 Kg at admittance and currently 6.3 Kg. He is currently eating Mamba and doing great.
REMILINE
Remiline is a 14- month old girl. She was admitted for kwashiorkor and is classified as a -4, the lowest one can be, on the malnourishment scale. Her mother died due to unidentified health problems. Her father is a bean and pumpkin farmer. She has been living with her aunt and two other people in a 2-bedroom house made of rocks and tin since her mother passed away. She weighed 4.9 Kg at admittance and currently weighs 5.5 Kg. She is currently on Mamba and doing very well.
