One of the first letter my mom wrote back home to supporters in 1994 (23 years ago)
Praise God Hallelujah! After months of preparation and anticipation we have done it, we are doing it, and we are going to continue doing it and we are going to continue doing the work of the Lord. We are finally on the mission field in Haiti. We stand in awe that God Almighty would chose two old sinners like us to do His work in Haiti. We consider it an honor and a great privilege to labor where the needs are so enormous.
Please pray for Haiti as it is a country in great disorder. The enemy has caused confusion and havoc in the Caribbean nation. Haiti seems to be getting worse every day with the embargo. Thousands of people are hurting from hunger, malnutrition, poverty and disease, many are dying.
There is no way we can convey to you the feeling of going to feeding programs and listening to over 150 hungry children singing in Creole red, yellow, black and white they are precious in His sight and praying before they eat.
There is no way to convey to you the smell of mountains of garbage and sewage running openly in the towns in 90 degree heat.
There is no way we can convey to you the joy of worshiping and praising God with hundreds of Haitians in church. It is like a little preview of what heaven must surely be like.
There is no way to convey to you the sights we see every-time we go out to the gate to minister to the sick and hungry. These are real people with real needs.
There is no way to convey to you the primitive ways of doing construction. Mixing large amounts of cement by hand, in the hot sun.
There is no way to convey to you the feeling we have as we see hundreds of Haitians coming everyday to get 5000-6000 gallons of water which God has provided for the ministry to give in His name.
Hallelujah! We’ve told many before there is no way to describe the sights, sounds and smells of Haiti unless you come and experience it for yourself.
We know a lot of people think that we are a bit crazy, that we might get killed here, which we might. That we will have to suffer trials and inconveniences, which we will. That we might get some rare disease which we may. But we would not trade what we have here for a million dollars. We are experiencing something that money, power or fame cannot bring. We are experiencing the fulfillment of the will of God in our lives. Words cannot describe the joy and happiness that God is filling our hearts with. Praise His Holy Name. This feeling is something the world can never give you, only God Almighty can give you the peace, joy and true happiness that floods our hearts today. The bottom line is we are more happy and complete that ever before in our lives.
