Miselande’s mom died soon after she was born. Her mom had 10 kids and five of those had died. Of the five still living, there were 3 boys and 2 girls. The father couldn’t handle things and left all the kids. The daughter of a cousin on the dad’s side wanted to help and took Miselande in to raise her. She is only 13 years old herself and helps care for 7 other children in the house. When she started caring for her, Miselande weighed 4 pounds and we were extremely nervous about the situation. Though there were other adults helping and in the home, this 13 year old was so sure that this is what she wanted to do that they wanted to try. We were speechless. We required an adult to come to each of the appointments and gave infant formula. Each appointment, she gained weight and was developing well. She is eight months old in this photo and weighs 14 pounds, a normal weight for her height. Though she still has some catching up to do, hers is an amazing story of the love of a family in the midst of loss and abandonment.
Could you be the one that stands in the gap for your family in need? Be encouraged to show love in action to your family even when it is a difficult situation.
Isaiah 58:7-8 (MSG)
“This is the kind of fast day I’m after:
to break the chains of injustice,
get rid of exploitation in the workplace,
free the oppressed,
cancel debts.
What I’m interested in seeing you do is:
sharing your food with the hungry,
inviting the homeless poor into your homes,
putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad,
being available to your own families.
Do this and the lights will turn on,
and your lives will turn around at once.
Your righteousness will pave your way.
The God of glory will secure your passage.
Then when you pray, God will answer.
You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.”
