New admits!

PHADELINE

She is 4 ½ years old and from a village that is about an hour from the clinic by motorcycle. She was admitted with a high fever, swelling and was unable to walk due to weakness and pain. She was very sick and began turning yellow after being here a few days. She had a resistant form of malaria, when she was treated with proper meds she began to heal quickly. Her parents have been separated since she was 11 months old. She has been living with her papa since she was 3. Her mama has had 9 children and 3 of those have died. Her papa is a farmer and grows beans, corn and sweet potatoes in his garden. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. The family lives in a 2 room home made of tin, mud and sticks.


GINETTE

She is 3 ½ years old. She has been suffering from kwashiorkor for several weeks now and has been following in our outpatient program. Her mama cannot get her to eat the medika mamba and felt she was getting worse and asked us to admit her for inpatient care. She has 4 living siblings and 2 that have died. Her parents are farmers and grow beans, corn and pumpkins in their gardens. The family of 7 lives in a 2 room home made of tin, clay and sticks. They traveled 3 hours by foot and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.


PHARENSLEY

He is 18 months old and weighs 13 pounds. He has 2 living siblings at home and lives with both parents. The family lives in a 2 room home made of tin, clay and sticks. They get their water from a source that is about a 30 minute walk from their home. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. The family has gardens where they grow beans and corn. Pharensley had been following in outpatient program for several weeks and was still losing weight and refused to eat any medika mamba. For this reason he was admitted to our inpatient care facility.


JEANNISE

Jennise was referred to us from another outpatient medika mamba program. She was not gaining weight and needed some extra help to reach her goal. She is 2 years old and weighs 14 pounds. Her mama stayed with her while she was in our center. There are 3 other living children in the family and 2 that have died. The family lives in a 1 room home made of tin, clay and rocks. They do not have running water in the home, flush toilet, or an outhouse. They walk about 40 minutes to the nearest water source. The day she was admitted, she had nothing to eat and the day before she had corn.


JULIENNE

Julienne was admitted into our inpatient care facility with a fever, cold, diarrhea and was a -4 degree of malnutrition, which is the worst. She is 10 months old and weighs 11 pounds. She has one sister and two brothers that live at home. The family (of 11 members) lives in a 5 room home made of block, tin and cement. They get their water from a piped system that is near their home. They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse. The day she was admitted she had soup to eat and the day before she had juice. She is able to sit on her own but is not yet crawling or walking.


WOODJINA

Woodjina has been living with her papa and his mother (her grandma) for several months. She is 10 months and and weighs 11 pounds.  She was born blind and her mama abandoned her when she found out. Her dad has been trying to care for her but she has been losing weight and has been sick for several months. She is an only child. She lives in a 3 room home made of block, tin and cement with 10 other family members. Her papa traveled 2 hours by car and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic. She also has been having diarrhea, coughing and a fever on and off. Her diet is made up of milk and juice only.


JOLENE

Jolene was very sick when she was admitted. She was so weak she was unable to stand on her own. She also had a high fever, diarrhea and general pain all over her body. She has been showing signs of kwashiorkor for about 1 month now and has had fever for 15 days. She has two sisters and one brother that live at home. The family are farmers and grow produce for a living. Their main crops are beans, pumpkins and corn. The family lives in a home made of tin, clay and rocks. They get their water from a source that is about a 30 minute walk from their home. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse. They traveled 4 hours by motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.
