Jowonder came to the clinic after having a motorcycle accident. His wound had been stitched up at another hospital and was very infected. He also had a high fever. He stayed for several weeks to be able to have daily dressing changes and medications for infection.

He is a little over 2 years old and weighs 18 pounds. He was brought to the clinic by his mother. He had been sick for the past few months.  He did not want to eat much and had been losing weight. He also had diarrhea and a fever. He has 2 living sisters and 1 living brother.  He has 1 sibling that died. His parents are farmers and grow beans, roots and corn in their gardens.  The family lives in a 2-room home made of rocks, cement and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from source that is about 1 hour walk from their home. The family traveled 2 hours by foot and motorcycle to arrive at the clinic.  He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

She is 2 years old and weighs 14 pounds. She lived with her mama the first 4 month of her life.  Her mama then dropped her off at her aunt house and left with another man. ☹ Her aunt has been caring for her since that time.  She has been sick for a few months now.  She had a fever and cold then got diarrhea for many days. She was also beginning to show signs of kwashiorkor.  She was very weak and sick when she arrived.  We had to give her IV fluids the first day.  She lives with her aunt in a 1 room home made of wood and tin.  She does not have running water at her home or a flush toilet but does have an outhouse.  They get their water from a hand pump that is about a 10-minute walk from their home. Her family traveled 2 hours by taxi to arrive at the clinic.  She was started on the F-75 therapeutic  milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

She has been coming to our clinic since she was 6 days old.  She has been on our outpatient program 2 times now but has again lost weight and developed kwashiorkor. Her downward spiral began when her mom got pregnant with her only other sibling.  She did not breastfeed her while she was pregnant, and she began losing weight.  Then when her brother was born there were 2 to care for. They are also farmers and grow beans, corn and grains in their gardens. The family of 10 lives in a 3-room home made of tin, clay and rocks. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  They get their water from source that is about a 20-minute walk from their home. He is 14 months old and weighs 11 pounds. He was sent to us by another NGO here in Haiti.  He has a twin brother that has moderate malnutrition that does not need inpatient care. His mama died 7 months ago after she had a fever and a headache. He was breastfed until his mama died.  Then his dad tried to care for them both the best he could. The twins have 1 other brother that is 12 years old. His dad is a farmer and grows beans, corn and bananas in his gardens. He has been losing weight for several months now and also has a fever and diarrhea. The family of 9 lives in 2 room home made of cinder block, cement and tin.   They do not have running at their home or a flush toilet but do have an outhouse.  They get their water from source that is about 10 minute walk from their home.
