What “Planting Hope” means to staff member Gilbert

Hello! My name is Gilbert Belneau. I have worked with Real Hope For Haiti since 2004. I’m happy to talk to all of you who have supported the mission and the good work that we do in the country of Haiti. There are many good results that the population finds in many areas.

The mission is working in a little place that’s not too big, but gives grand results in the work that is done in Haiti. I had the chance to pass a lot of time with Madam Zach (Gretchen) before she died. This woman had a dream that she wanted to see come to pass before she died. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen in her lifetime, but her kids knew her dream. This same dream that their mom and dad had is what is still being laid on their children’s hearts.

We know that this would be the same because it is God that called them all to this work and it is His plan. Problems can’t make them turn back. If this was true they would have already left Haiti and went back to their country. This work that you support and give to the Haitian people should really be the work of the Haitian government to help her people, but it’s not happening.

Since they started, this mission has worked in a small house that they made into a clinic that is truly tight on space. Some of the services that they are giving people in this small clinic, you can’t even find in a big hospital.

Government hospitals are often on strike and not working. Some of the sick that should go to a hospital can’t because they don’t have money to go to private hospitals.

I have an uncle that has prostate problems and there was a day in March that he didn’t feel well at all and came to the clinic. As he was coming inside the clinic, he was getting more and more weak. Lori asked, “Where is your family?” He said, “You are here. You are my family. You can chose to do what you think is good for me.” In just a few more moments, he passed out. Many people thought that he had died. He was very bad. The clinic staff did all that they could for him to give him life. It was God that arranged for this clinic to be here and opened and stocked with supplies at this moment when my uncle was in need. The clinic sent him to General Hospital for a urologist to see him. He was at the hospital for almost one month. They cared for him and put him on a list to get an operation done. Unfortunately, there was a child that died in the operating room. For that reason the parents of the child came with a gang of bandits to beat up the doctors. The hospital closed down. My uncle didn’t have a chance to do an operation and returned to his house. He doesn’t have the possibility to go to a private hospital.

I write this story for you to understand the work of this mission in the country. It is really needed and you can help. The mission should leave the level of a clinic to become a hospital in Cazale. This would improve the good services offered, make care more available to people, and more work could be done.

The mission does a lot of work and I don’t believe I can remember it all.
*Lots of good work in the lives of children whose parents are having difficulty to care for them. Even though the mission doesn’t have much space, they house and care for these ill children to give them good medical care until they are good.
*There are many people that have diabetes, hypertenstion, and asthma that find wonderful quality services to care for them.
*Much work has been done in the area with the contributions for RHFH in the area of agriculture – planting trees, tree nursery, irrigation, seed and tool distributions, etc.
*In the area of education, paying for school, buying books, etc.
*For housing, build houses for some that are unable or rent house for others. Some people the give them food as well.
*For sanitation, dig and build latrines in many areas, teaching people to live in a healthy environment, hand washing stations, etc.

There is more, but I will just tell you that RHFH does so much in the country of Haiti, especially in Cazale. Please continue to help so more work can be done, especially in “Planting Hope” and building so the dreams will become a reality.
