In 2008 we had a major flood in and around the Cazale area. It left damage to many home, crops and lives were lost in the community. There were many groups and people that responded and helped the area. One that was very important to the whole community was Water Missions International.
We have a piped water system that comes out of a source several miles up the river from our place. This system supplies the water for the community. The pipes were damaged after the flood and it took 6 months for them to be repaired. Before Water Mission’s came to RHFH, we used a handheld system that filtered water. When we used, 2 machines, 12 hours a day we could produce enough water for drinking for our needs at RHFH.
After the flooding many were in need of clean water to drink. It became difficult to filter enough and the only source of water we had was the dirty river water. We carried water from the river in 5 gallons buckets and dumped it through a towel to filter as much dirt out as we could. Then we added aloe plants to help as well. After that the water was filtered through the small hand held machines. They soon became clogged up and had to be cleaned after every few gallons.
We were very excited when we heard from Water Missions and knew help was on the way! They road was washed out in 2 areas so the machine and heavy sand filters had to be transferred by hand from one truck, then over a footpath and into another truck to arrive at RHFH. The men that came to instal them spend a few days with us and got us set up with a system that pulled the river water up to the water filter system. Soon we were able to provide for the whole community and have been doing so since then. GOD IS GOOD!
