The girls who are admitted into our malnutrition program get their hair braided all sorts of ways. The nannies here all know different ways to braid so each week the girls always have a new look. They spend a couple hours to make sure all their hair is done for the week.
There are many different ways for Haitian girls to do their hair. Once they get the hair sectioned they either braid it or twist. Most of the time here at our Rescue Center if the hair is short enough, they can do without needing to put hair ties at the end of the braid and their hair will hold until they are ready for it to be braided again.
If barrettes, clips, and beads are available, then the more the merrier. There are many different ways to section the braids. You can pull it off into squares, rows, or even zigzags. The smallest of braids are possible so the shortest of hair is able to be braided and often is very tedious, but the results are so pretty.
The nannies in the Rescue Center often say they spend about 10-20 minutes on each girl and on braid day it can take two hours do to all of the hair depending on how many nannies there are to braid the hair. The girls get their hair braided at least once a week. The girls sit in all different positions to get the best angles for the braids.
The beautiful girls at the Rescue Center and ICU always have the prettiest braids done by our different nannies. It is always a joy to see the many different types of ways there are to braid the girl’s hair even on the same child. We appreciate the nannies’ willingness to care for the children and take care for them while they are admitted here at Real Hope for Haiti.
