Special Patient of the Month: Kerlen

THANK YOU THIS NEED HAS BEEN MET!!

Kerlen is a boy that lives in a village up in the mountains behind Cazale with his dad, mom, and 4 siblings. He was riding a horse with an older boy to go buy bread for people that were weeding the beans in the family garden. The other boy hit the horse to run and it bolted. Both boys fell off, but Kerlen broke his arm.

His family took him to a missionary closer to his home that splinted his arm and sent him to us. We sent him on to the hospital where they confirmed the breaks and agreed surgery was required. Details are still being worked out and materials for surgery are trying to be found to purchase here in Haiti. What is known is that he will need around $1850 for the surgery, hospitalization, care, and transportation. His parents work hard to care for their family (carpentry, farmer, odd jobs), but this large expense is out of their reach. The hospital has reduced fees and the missionary that first saw him will be sharing this post with her network so there are 3 organizations collaborating to make sure this boy receives the care he needs to make the best recovery possible. He will stay in the hospital for a few days after surgery to make sure there is no risk of infection, then come to stay at RHFH for awhile to heal and do physical therapy, and then get additional follow-up closer to his home.
