At our facility, we provide comprehensive treatment for children with severe malnutrition, including those with kwashiorkor. Our programs include nutritional support, medical care, and education for families to help prevent future malnutrition. We continue to see an increase in out inpatient and outpatient programs with those children with severe malnutrition. We are also seeing an increase of children with kwashiorkor. What is kwashiorkor? Kwashiorkor is a type of severe malnutrition that is caused by a lack of protein in the diet. It is common in developing countries where access to protein-rich foods is limited. The condition is characterized by swelling, especially in the legs and feet, and a distended abdomen. Other symptoms may include fatigue, irritability, and changes in skin and hair color.
