Boujon, a small area in the village of Cazale, is home to two schools that offer education up to the sixth grade. The children in the area enjoy playing marbles, tag, jump rope, and a game with rocks, similar to jacks. Two churches, the Church of God and Adventist Church, serve the community’s spiritual needs.
As the country struggles, accessing medical care for serious illnesses can be challenging, causing significant stress for residents. The RHFH clinic, located nearby, provides much-needed assistance to those in need and helps transport patients to more extensive medical facilities when necessary. Most women in the area still deliver their children at home with the help of a birth attendant. The lack of accessible medical care adds to the fear of traveling to a larger hospital in case of complications.
The majority of the residents in the area are farmers or bulk buyers that purchase goods to resell. There are also a few teachers that reside in the region. Despite the absence of any community leaders, the older members discuss problems and work together to find solutions that benefit everyone. The area is generally peaceful and has a calm atmosphere. Those who work as farmers put in long hours each day, planting bananas, beans, roots, sweet potatoes, corn and legumes. Residents consume a lot of rice and beans, as well as produce grown in their gardens.
While there isn’t much to do in the area for entertainment, the bigger issue is the state of the country causing stress and anxiety for everyone. The community hopes for things to improve so that they may once again enjoy their lives.
