Staff Perspective

I am Rosina, an employee at RHFH, where I have worked for 12 years. Over the years, I have seen many lives and heard many stories, but one that stands out from the beginning of my time here is Wilner’s.

Wilner’s story is a reminder of the strength and resilience of the human spirit. In 2012, he arrived at our nutrition center, weighing only 11 pounds. His condition was serious, and we all thought that he was going to die. Some days, he was so weak that it seemed like he was nearing his last moments. We dedicated ourselves to providing him with the care he needed. We gave him medication and three meals a day, and medika mamba carefully selected to help his body recover. Gradually, his weight increased, and his health improved.

What I remember most about Wilner is his interaction with me. When we played together, his hands would touch my face, then his own, making him laugh. These moments of connection were uplifting for both of us. When Wilner reached 18 pounds, it felt like a true achievement. His face brightened, his body became stronger, and his health returned to that of a normal child. It was a clear example of the power of care and dedication.

Wilner reached his goal weight and returned home with his family. I wasn’t at the center on his departure day, and when I returned, my colleagues told me, “Your son is gone.” I felt a mix of sadness and happiness—sadness that I couldn’t say goodbye, but happiness for his recovery and return to his family. Wilner’s story is a lasting reminder of the important of the work that we do each day.
