A letter written by Zach in May 1994
Praise God! Hallelujah! It doesn’t seem possible we have been here almost 4 months. Much has happened in those four months and only by the mercy and grace of God we have made it. The same excitement and joy we experienced on first arriving in Haiti is still resting upon us. If anything, it is intensifying, and we pray every day God would fill us to overflowing with his excitement and joy. The devil is mad, and we are glad. He is dumber than a sack of rocks and nothing but a hot bag of air. Jesus won victory over him on the cross. Jesus defeated death, hell, and the grave at Calvary and if we are saved by the blood of Jesus, we have that same Victory through Jesus. It is time the children of God quit walking around defeated. the spirit of God is saying , “Wake up, rise up and rejoice in the joy of your salvation”. It is time the body of Christ comes together in one accord and unity and destroys the work of the devil. I don’t care what the devil is doing to you, it is time to rejoice because soon and very soon we are going to see the king. We are going to praise him for all eternity: we might as well get a head start. Amen! If you have been sitting on the sidelines, I’ll tell you in the name of Jesus “Get back in the race”.
Jesus is coming soon, and our responsibility is to tell everyone we can that Jesus loves them and if they accept him as their personal savior, they can spend eternity with him. Many say they believe in Jesus, but that’s not enough. the Bible says that even the devil believes in Jesus and trembles. You must have a personal relationship with him. By the spirit of God, I feel that some reading this letter are not right with God. Some have never accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and others have fallen away from God. Stop right now, talk to him like he is your closest friend, ask him into your heart and let him be Lord of your life. Read the Bible and pray that God would conform you into an image of his son Jesus.
People say they are lonely and bored. I say accept Jesus as your personal Savior and do the work of the Lord and you will never be lonely or bored again. Love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. I guarantee you he will fill you full of joy and peace unspeakable amen! The bottom line to life is happiness and the old song says, “Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey”. Solomon the wisest man to ever live says the conclusion of the matter is to fear the Lord and obey his commandments. I told you the truth and the rest is up to you. May the love of God abound in your heart.
We have been going to language school for almost 2 months and we are learning to communicate more and more each day with the Haitians. It is sometimes hard to learn new things, but we are working on it. We thank God for the privilege and opportunity to share his love with the people of Haiti.
We did not reach any water on the well we were drilling. We pulled off that well and are starting another at a different location on the property. Please pray with us that this well will produce water desperately needed in this area. It is a blessing to give a cool drink of water in the name of Jesus. We also want to ask for prayer today as we and the other missionaries have been under a tremendous spiritual attack lately some are experiencing physical problems and some health problems. Join us in prayer that healing, and health would manifest in their bodies and minds. We need your prayers.
The needs are many here in the country and seems to be getting worse every day because of the embargo. It is doing nothing but making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Thousands of children men and women are dying. This same story can be told over and over here. A man came to the gate with a starving 4-year-old boy. The look in the boy’s eyes told that he had given up his will to live. We sent them to a hospital, but several days later the father came back and told us that he had died. We are feeding approximately 1000 children, but easily could feed thousands more. It costs about $5 a month to give a meal once a day to those in need. Read Matthew 25: 31- 46 read slowly and let the spirit of God speak to you obedient to the voice of God and watch the windows of Heaven open and pour a blessing on you that you cannot contain. We travel once a week over the mountains to deliver food. It must be done with a tractor and a wagon pulled behind it. It is a difficult road up a steep mountain. But we are happy to deliver the food and see the smiles on the children’s faces. The feeding centers makes meals 6 days a week for the children. When they come to eat they sing together. It is a joy to see the children together in one place.
We pray that God will bless you today and keep you safe. To God be all the Glory!
Zach and Gretchen
