Kettia, a 6-year-old girl, was brought to the clinic by her neighbor after suffering from a severe, untreated skin infection on her head. Despite the neighbors’ repeated suggestions to seek medical help, her family did not take action. Determined to help, her neighbor made the five-hour journey on foot to bring Kettia to the clinic.
Due to the severity of her condition and the need for daily dressing changes and medication, Kettia was admitted to the clinic. Upon cleaning the wound, several maggots were found, highlighting the importance of her extended care. We are grateful for the neighbor’s determination and glad that Kettia is now receiving the treatment she needs.
Five-year-old Clivens arrived at the clinic in bad condition, weighing only 30 pounds and suffering from severe edema caused by kwashiorkor. His family, including his parents and sister, live in a simple two-room home made of rocks and clay, without running water or a toilet. The family relies on farming beans, corn, and millet, selling their produce in open-air markets to make a modest income of around $190 a month. For months, Clivens had been malnourished, and his parents initially turned to herbal remedies in hopes of improving his condition. When his health continued to decline, they made the difficult decision to take him to the clinic, traveling two hours on a motorcycle taxi. By the time they arrived, Clivens had been battling edema for six days, and his skin was starting to slough off.
At the clinic, Clivens was immediately started on F-75 therapeutic milk, followed by Medika Mamba, a nutrient-rich peanut paste designed to treat severe malnutrition. Slowly, he began to recover, offering a glimmer of hope to his worried family. With the dedicated care provided by the clinic, Clivens is on the path to regaining his strength and health.
Anathanaelle arrived at our clinic in a serious condition, suffering from swelling throughout her body, difficulty breathing, and an alarmingly high heart rate. Her symptoms were concerning, so we admitted her for close observation and immediate medical care.
Over the course of a week, she received the necessary medications and constant monitoring from our dedicated team. Slowly, her condition began to improve as the treatment took effect. By the end of her stay, Anathanaelle was well enough to return home to her family, breathing easier and on the road to recovery.
Malia, a 23-month-old girl, weighed just 16 pounds and was suffering from 2+ edema due to kwashiorkor, with a -3SD degree of malnutrition. She lives with her grandmother, as her father left for the Dominican Republic in search of work, and her mother, who is mentally unstable, is unable to care for her. Their home is a small, two-room structure made of sticks and tin, with no running water or toilet facilities. They walk 30 minutes to the nearest water source. Malia had been sick with edema for 14 days and malnourished for several months, with her skin sloughing off. The day before she was admitted to the clinic, she had only consumed some soup, and when she arrived, she had eaten nothing. With an average monthly income of just $57, her grandmother managed to bring her to the clinic on a motorcycle taxi after a one-hour journey. Malia was initially started on F-75 milk and later transitioned to Medika Mamba for her recovery.

Jamesly and Chrisna, brother and sister, suffered a tragic accident while playing near their home’s cooking area. A pan of hot oil was accidentally flipped, spilling onto both children and leaving them with severe burns. Now staying at the Rescue Center, they receive daily dressing changes and medical care to help their wounds heal.
Jamesly, a young boy with two sisters and a twin brother, and his sister Chrisna, come from a modest three-room home made of wood and tin. With no running water or a flush toilet, their family relies on a water source an hour’s walk away. Their mother, who supports the family by buying items in bulk to resell for a small profit, is staying at the Rescue Center with the children until they fully recover. The family’s average monthly income is just $76, making their situation especially challenging during this difficult time.
