At the nutrition center, propane gas and charcoal play a crucial role in preparing meals for children. These two fuels are essential and complementary, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Propane gas is our preferred energy source for cooking, for several reasons:
- Reduction of heat and smoke: Cooking with gas reduces heat in the kitchen, improving working conditions and preventing the spread of smoke in the space.
- Preservation of facilities: Unlike charcoal, gas does not dirty the kitchen walls, maintaining a clean environment.
- Efficiency and speed: Gas allows food to be cooked more quickly, which is essential to meet the daily nutritional needs of children.
However, despite its advantages, certain circumstances force us to use charcoal:
- Shortages and road blocks: During disruptions in the country due to insecurity, it becomes difficult to obtain propane gas. In such cases, charcoal serves as an alternative solution.
- Continuous availability: We ensure that charcoal is always kept in reserve to prevent any interruptions in meal preparation.
To ensure the smooth operation of the nutrition center and guarantee that children receive their meals without interruption, it is essential to have a sufficient supply of both propane gas and charcoal. These two resources are indispensable to support our mission.
We would also like to share a story that highlights how this food helps many people.
Marie-Lina is the mother of Davens, a 10-year-old boy who unfortunately developed a bone infection in his leg. He spent several months in a hospital in the city of Hinche, far from Cazale. After undergoing surgery there, he returned to our clinic for continuing wound care. While staying at our clinic, Marie-Lina and her son could not afford to buy food every day and were unable to return to their home in Arcahaie due to armed gangs that caused problems in the area.
Thanks to the meals provided by the nutrition center, Marie-Lina and Davens are fed daily. This food sustains them until Davens fully recovers.
To continue providing quality service to the children at the center and to help families in need, we kindly ask for your support in supplying propane gas and charcoal. Your assistance will allow us to ensure regular meals and support families like that of Davens and his mother.
