A Day in the Life of a Foster Mom in Cazale

I’ve been a foster mom since May 2021, and it has been such a blessing. I’m 33 years old and have four wonderful children—two boys and two girls. My father has passed away, but my mom is still alive. I come from a big family with five sisters and three brothers, and we all live in the community of Cazale.

Being a foster mom to Geraldine, a child with special needs, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I love her deeply and enjoy caring for her. It hurts my heart when she is sick or doesn’t feel like eating, but I do my best to make her happy and comfortable each day.

Our mornings start with a routine: I help Geraldine wake up, wash her face, and brush her teeth. Then, we have breakfast together. Since she can’t walk, I do gentle leg movements with her to keep her active. One of her favorite things is sitting outside, watching people walk by. While she enjoys the fresh air, I take care of household chores like cleaning or washing clothes.

In the afternoon, we share a big lunch together. Afterward, I give Geraldine a bath, and we spend some time playing together. Evenings are special because we often visit with friends and family. Before bed, we have a light dinner together. Caring for a child with special needs can be challenging at times, especially with a child who cannot walk or talk. But being with Geraldine each day, all day long, we have learned so much about each other. Though she cannot talk, she makes different sounds to express her needs, and I’ve come to understand her in ways that go beyond words.

Caring for Geraldine not only brings me joy but also helps me and my family thrive in our community. Cazale is a wonderful place to live because it provides what we need to sustain ourselves, and access to water is easy.

Faith is an important part of my life. I’m a Christian and attend church every week. As we start this new year, I ask for your prayers. Please pray that God will protect my family and that 2025 will be a successful and joyful year for everyone.

Thank you for reading about my journey as a foster mom. Geraldine and I are so grateful for your support and prayers!
