New Admits

Sonay is a 27-month-old boy who came to the clinic very sick and weak. For a month, he had been losing weight, didn’t want to eat, and had a fever and a cold. He lives with his parents and five siblings in a small, one-room house made of sticks and brush. Sadly, two of his siblings have died, one from malnutrition. Sonay’s family doesn’t have running water, a toilet, or even an outhouse. They walk 1.5 hours to get water. The day he came to the clinic, Sonay had eaten nothing, and the day before, he only had some cow’s milk. The family traveled 11 long hours by motorcycle and foot to arrive at the clinic. Sonay started on F-75 milk and later began Medika Mamba. He is now on the road to recovery.

Rose Carline has one sister and four brothers. Her family lives in a two-room house made of rocks and clay with a tin roof. They don’t have running water, a toilet, or even an outhouse. They walk one hour to get water. The day she came to the clinic, Rose Carline had eaten a banana, and the day before, she had rice with fish. Her family, earning about $57 a month, traveled eight hours by foot and motorcycle to bring her here. She started treatment with F-75 milk and later began Medika Mamba.

Dachenaica is a 10-month-old baby girl who is very sick with severe kwashiorkor. She has had swelling for 8 days, scabies, and is very anemic. Today, she ate a plate of rice, and yesterday, she had a plate of cornmeal. She has one brother and lives with her mother, but her father is very involved in her life. The family lives in a four-room house made of cinder blocks and cement with a tin roof. They don’t have running water or a flush toilet, but they do have an outhouse and buy water nearby. With an income of about $115 a month, the family traveled one hour by motorcycle to bring Dachenaica to the clinic for care.

Her parents live together in a three-room house made of clay and rocks with a tin roof. They don’t have running water, a toilet, or an outhouse. Irana started treatment with F-75 milk and then began Medika Mamba to help her recover.

Gedson is a 12-month-old boy who came to the clinic with his severely malnourished sister. Gedson is moderately malnourished but is still breastfeeding, so he is staying at the clinic for inpatient care too with his mother. He has had a cold for about a week and doesn’t have much energy. Gedson has three sisters and two brothers. His parents live together in a three-room house made of clay and rocks with a tin roof. They don’t have running water, a toilet, or an outhouse. The family walks 30 minutes to get water and earns about $30 a month. Gedson is now receiving care at the clinic to regain his strength and health. We are hopeful he will recover well with proper nutrition and medical attention.

Michena arrived at the clinic with high fevers, widespread swelling, and deeply infected sores that required daily dressing changes and injections to aid her recovery. Her loving grandmother accompanied her and stayed by her side throughout her care. Michena lives with her family in a three room home, they sell bulk items like soap, laundry detergent, bleach, lye soap, and other hygiene products. Her grandmother showed great devotion, ensuring she received the care and support she needed during her treatment.
