Your Love Helps Roseberlie Heal

Roseberlie is a six-month-old infant, a healthy little girl living with her mother in the Croix Maitoux neighborhood, located about an hour and a half from our clinic.

One day, while her mother had laid her down on the bed to attend to a household chore, Roseberlie was left momentarily unsupervised. During this brief absence, the child rolled over and fell from the bed. Her cry of pain immediately alerted her mother, who rushed to her with a sinking heart. She found her daughter crying, with her leg in an abnormal position, which made her fear a serious injury.

Panicked but quick to act, the mother remembered that neighbors had recommended our clinic. Without delay, she got the neighbor. They took a motorcycle taxi and traveled the long distance with her injured child so that she could receive care as quickly as possible.

Upon arrival, the healthcare team immediately took charge of Roseberlie. The initial clinical examination revealed a probable fracture in the right leg. Age-appropriate analgesics were administered to relieve her pain and we assessed her general condition. She was malnourished and had the beginning signs of kwashiorkor.

Given the suspected fracture, we referred Roseberlie to Sainte-Camille Hospital, a better-equipped facility with specialists. An X-ray confirmed the presence of a fracture. An cast (waist to toes) was applied to immobilize the affected limb and promote proper bone healing.

Roseberlie was then brought back to our clinic for continued care. As her condition required regular treatment, and considering the challenges of transportation and her mother’s financial limitations, a decision was made in agreement with the family to admit Roseberlie to our nutrition center. This allowed for daily, thorough, and age-appropriate care to be provided more easily.

Since her admission, her clinical progress has been positive. The pain has significantly decreased, and Roseberlie no longer whimpers as she did initially, which is an encouraging sign of recovery. The fracture site is being closely monitored, and she continues to receive regular follow-up care at Sainte-Camille Hospital with the specialist.

We continue to care for Roseberlie with attention and compassion, hopeful that she will fully recover the use of her leg and grow up without any lasting effects. Thank you for your concern and compassion to help children like Roseberlie. Your support leaves a lasting positive impact in patients, families, and in the community.
