Staff Spotlight-Wedgaline

My name is Wedgaline, and I’ve been part of the Real Hope for Haiti (RHFH) team since 2017. I work as a lab technician in the medical clinic’s laboratory. Each day, I perform a wide range of medical tests to help doctors make informed decisions about patient care. It’s a role I take seriously, knowing that accurate lab results can help guide the right treatment and improve lives. I live in Cazale with my husband, our child, my parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Though I wasn’t born in Cazale, it has become home for me. I enjoy living here—the area is beautiful, there’s access to water, and the people are kind and welcoming.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing how lab results lead to healing. When I’m able to provide a result that helps the medical team choose the right treatment, and the patient improves, it feels good to be part of that process. But not every day is easy. The hardest moments are when the results are bad—especially for children. It’s never easy to deliver difficult news.

One story that has stayed with me involved a very sick child who came to the lab for blood work. Just by looking at them, I could tell they were in critical condition. Their hematocrit was only 10%, and I quietly thought to myself, “They may not survive.” We quickly referred the child to a hospital for care. Weeks later, I was surprised and overjoyed when they returned—healthy, smiling, and full of life. I’ll never forget that moment.

Working at RHFH not only allows me to support my family but also gives me the chance to contribute to the health of the community. The RHFH clinic does incredible work—caring for the sick and reaching out to those in need. I’m proud to be a part of it.
