Marvens is a 10-year-old boy from Rechimaud, a rural area about five hours from our clinic. He lives with his parents and three sisters, and the family relies on farming for their livelihood. After three days of worsening health, his mother brought him to our facility for care.
When he arrived, Marvens had a high fever of 106°F, was weak, and in visible discomfort. He was experiencing severe dental pain, with swelling in his lower jaw and signs of infection in his mouth. We began treatment right away by managing his fever and conducting lab tests to better understand his condition.
The results showed he had anemia and a bad infection. He was admitted for inpatient care and began a course of antibiotics, and supportive treatment. Over the next several days, his condition steadily improved. The swelling went down, his pain lessened, and he began eating and moving around on his own again.
His mother, who was understandably concerned when they arrived, expressed her gratitude as she saw him return to health. Marvens’ story is a clear example of how access to medical care can make a real difference. We’re thankful to the donors and partners who make it possible to provide this care for children like Marvens, even in remote areas.
