Recipe-boiled bananas and fish

In Haiti, one of the most loved and appreciated dishes is undoubtedly boiled bananas served with fish sauce. If you come to Haiti and want to taste something delicious and typical, don’t hesitate to ask for this dish! Today, we’ll show you how to prepare it at home.

Ingredients:

  • Bananas according to the number of people
  • Fish of your choice
  • Spices to season the fish (garlic, onion, pepper, thyme, parsley, chili if you like)
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Water

Preparation of boiled bananas:

1. Peel the bananas.

2. Put them in a pot with salted water and boil until tender (about 15-20 minutes).

Preparation of the fish sauce:

1. Clean the fish well and cut into pieces if needed.

2. Marinate the fish with chopped garlic, onion, pepper, thyme, parsley, a little salt, and chili if you like. Let it rest for 15 to 30 minutes.

3. Heat some oil in a pot. Add the marinated fish and lightly sauté.

4. Add the tomato paste, some water, then let it simmer gently. Adjust salt and spices to your taste.

5. Cook until the sauce thickens a bit and the fish is fully cooked (about 15 minutes).

Serving:

Serve the boiled bananas hot, accompanied by the flavorful fish sauce. You can add cucumbers, onions and tomatos to the dish. This simple but delicious dish will let you discover an authentic taste of Haiti.
