Recovered Patient-Elmise

Elmise’s Journey: From Hardship to a Loving Home

Elmise, a bright 10-year-old with a radiant smile, is now thriving in our foster care program—but her journey here has been far from easy.

She and her sister grew up with their mother, who struggled with mental illness and was unable to care for them properly. After their father passed away, their situation worsened. The girls fell into malnutrition and homelessness, often sleeping on strangers’ porches. Eventually, their mother abandoned them, and the family lost all contact.

Their older brother tried to help, but without success. One day, while Elmise and her sister were on the streets, a representative from our mission met them. Moved by their story, he brought them to our clinic. Elmise was only five years old at the time and suffering from severe level-3 malnutrition, weighing just 11 kg.

She was immediately admitted to our nutrition center, where a personalized treatment plan—including medications, therapeutic milk, Medika Mamba, and a carefully monitored diet—helped her gradually regain strength.

Thanks to the dedicated care of our team, Elmise recovered fully from malnutrition. Today, at 10 years old and weighing 23 kg, she is healthy, energetic, and full of life. After locating their grandmother, we learned she loved the girls deeply but was unable to care for them due to her age and limited resources.

To provide stability and love, Elmise and her sister were placed in a foster family. Today, they live with a caring mom, dad, and little brother. They attend school, go to church, and are thriving in a safe and nurturing environment.

Elmise’s story reminds us how important foster care and compassionate support can be—giving children the chance not just to survive, but to flourish.
