Throw back Thursday a child from the Rescue Center

Mackenley is now a bright and handsome 7-year-old boy, full of energy and curiosity. He lives with his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. But his early childhood was anything but easy.

At just two years old, Mackenley’s health took a dangerous turn. He suffered from severe malnutrition with swelling throughout his body, along with diarrhea, fever, and a cold. His mother remembers that he had been swollen for nearly two months. She tried to care for him at home, but when his condition only grew worse, she made the difficult choice to walk more than five hours from their home to bring him to the clinic.

When Mackenley arrived, he was admitted to the nutrition center, where he stayed for a month. During that time, he received the medicines and therapeutic foods he needed to recover. Little by little, his strength returned. By the time he went home, he was a different child—healthy, strong, and full of life again.

Even after leaving the center, his mother remained committed to his care. She never missed a follow-up visit, no matter how far or difficult the journey, because she knew how important those check-ups were to keep her son from relapsing.

Today, Mackenley is thriving. He is in school, and though there are times when his parents cannot afford the fees or when schools close due to the situation in Haiti, he loves to learn. He proudly tells people that he earns good grades.

His mother reflects with deep gratitude:
“If Mackenley is healthy today, it is thanks to the care he received at the nutrition center when he was a baby. Without that care, he could have died.”

Mackenley’s story is a beautiful reminder of the impact your support makes. Because of you, children like him are alive, learning, and growing strong. Thank you.
