At the clinic in Cazale, our team recently held an educational session on strategies to fight discouragement. The waiting room was full that morning — patients listening closely, nodding as we talked about the many ways discouragement can touch our lives: emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially.
Among them sat Hélène, a 34-year-old woman who listened with quiet attention. When the session ended, we asked everyone to share two strategies they would use to overcome discouragement. Hélène smiled and spoke with confidence:
“I will get more involved in spiritual activities.”
“I will make friends to share jokes with.”
“And I will listen to music that can lift my spirit whenever I feel discouraged.”
When we asked her how these would help, her answers were filled with wisdom and grace:
“Spiritual activities are true sources of peace. When I pray, I don’t feel alone anymore — I find strength to keep moving forward.”
“Telling jokes keeps me connected to others. When I make people laugh, I laugh too, and I believe laughter can heal the heart. Every joke is a little light in the darkness.”
“Listening to music is good therapy. Each melody reminds me that life still has beauty, even in hard times.”
That morning, Hélène didn’t just speak for herself. Her simple words of hope reached everyone in the room. She reminded us that healing begins with small, intentional choices — to pray, to laugh, and to listen — even when life feels heavy.
