One morning, Lorkenson got ready for school like any other child—up early, neatly dressed, and full of energy. He left home with a bright smile, but when he returned later that day, something was not right. He looked at his mother and quietly said, “Mom, my knee hurts.”
As his condition began to change, his mother grew concerned. When a fever followed and his pain increased, she turned to prayer and placed her trust in God. The next day, Lorkenson was no longer able to stand. Even as his movements became more difficult, she continued to pray and hold on to hope.
In the months that followed, she looked for help while remaining grounded in her faith. Although the pain continued, she did not give up. For 6 months she looked and could not find anyone to help her son. She then brought Lorkenson to our clinic for care.
At the clinic, the chaplains supported the family throughout the journey. They prayed with Lorkenson’s mother, encouraged her, and reminded her that she was not alone. Medical evaluations eventually showed that Lorkenson had a serious infection, and surgery was recommended.
Although this news was difficult, his mother remained steady in her faith. She continued to pray and often said, “I know God is in control of everything.”
On the day of the surgery, the family and clinic staff placed their trust in God while the medical team did their work. By God’s grace, the operation went well. During Lorkenson’s recovery, his mother remained by his side, continuing in prayer.
After 18 days, Lorkenson returned to the clinic, and his improvement was clear. His leg was healing well, and over time, he made a full recovery.
Today, his mother gives thanks to God for carrying them through every step of this experience. She is also grateful for the care Lorkenson received from the medical team and the support of the chaplains along the way.
Lorkenson’s story is a meaningful reminder of the strength of faith, the value of compassionate care, and the hope that can remain even during difficult times.
