My name is Mathurin, and I have served as a chaplain at Real Hope for Haiti since January 2020.

I lost both of my parents, and I have three sisters and one brother. Today, I live with my cousin and his family in a seven-room home. They have welcomed me in and made a place for me, and I’m grateful for that every day.

My work here is centered on presence — being with people in the moments that matter most. Each morning, I lead devotions with the staff. Throughout the day, I pray with and talk to the patients who come through the clinic, as well as with the staff themselves. I spend time with families in the Rescue Center and the clinic, praying with them and simply listening. When someone in our community faces a burial, I help with those services too. I offer advice on life and spiritual matters, and I try to encourage those who are suffering, reminding them they are not alone.

This work has done as much for me as I hope I’ve done for others. Because of my time here, I was able to finish Bible school. It has helped me live, and it has helped me eat. I am able to build a life because of this ministry.

I love living in Cazale. It’s a calm place, with plenty of water, and my family is happy here too. RHFH has helped repair Cazale’s water system, which matters more than people might realize. The organization also gives work to people in need, helps children go to school, and cares for those who are sick. I attend the Church of God here in the community.

I would ask for your prayers — that I remain faithful as a Christian, that I carry a good attitude in my life, and that wherever I go, I bring that same spirit with me.
