Seen, Loved, and Healed

For 40 years, Justine has lived with blindness, facing each day with remarkable faith and determination. Together with her husband, who farms to provide for their family, she is raising three children despite the many challenges poverty brings. But when a large fibroid began growing in her abdomen, life became almost unbearable. She suffered constant pain, heavy bleeding, and increasing weakness, making even the simplest daily tasks difficult.

After a medical evaluation, a doctor recommended surgery. Although Justine knew the operation was necessary, she had no way to pay for it. Gathering her courage, she traveled 45 minutes to Real Hope for Haiti and humbly asked if there was any way we could help.

When our finance committee reviewed her situation, they recognized both the seriousness of her condition and the extreme financial hardship her family faced. Because of the generosity of our donors, her request was approved, and every cost of her surgery was covered.

A friend from church accompanied Justine to the hospital, remaining faithfully by her side throughout her care. Surgeons successfully performed a hysterectomy to remove the massive fibroid. Following the operation, Justine spent nearly a month recovering at Real Hope for Haiti, where she received medications, nutritious meals, and daily wound care. After leaving the clinic, she stayed with her friend for several more weeks to ensure she healed safely before returning home to her family.

When Justine returned for a follow-up visit, the difference was remarkable. The pain that had once controlled her life was gone. She could once again care for her children, sleep peacefully through the night, and enjoy everyday life without fear or discomfort.

But perhaps the greatest change was one that could not be measured by a medical examination.

“I feel like God cares for me and sees me,” Justine shared. “I feel valued.”

Despite the hardships she continues to face, Justine’s faith has never wavered. She constantly encourages those around her, reminding them that God is faithful and never abandons His children.
