LUDIANA

She was in out inpatient program for 11 months this past year.  When she returned home she weighed 14 pounds.  Her family did not follow in the outpatient program and she began losing weight.  She is currently 18 months old and weighs 10 pounds. She was severely dehydrated when admitted as well.  She was started in the F-75 milk and then graduated back into the medika mamba program.

 WIGUENS

He is 20 months old and weighs 12 pounds.  He has had diarrhea for over a month now and has just been really sick.  He started showing signs of kwashiorkor last week and his mama knew it was time to seek help.  He has 4 living siblings and 2 that have died of fever.  The family of 6 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, clay and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The get their water from a source that is about 30 minute walk from their home.  The parents are both farmers and grow beans and corn in their gardens.  The day he was admitted he had not had anything to eat and the day before he had some soup.  He was started on the F-75 milk and stayed on it for several days and then graduated to the medika mamba.

 CLINTON

He is 3 years old and weighs 23 pounds. He has been swollen with kwashiorkor for about 1 month now.  His papa is a carpenter and his mama buys items in bulk and resells them.  They also have gardens where they grow beans and corn. He has 4 living siblings at home.  The family of 6 lives in a 3 room home made of rocks, clay and tin.  They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  The day he was admitted he had a banana and coffee, the day before just coffee.   He was started on the F-75 milk and then graduated to the medika mamba.

 JN MARC

He is 2 1/2 years old and weighs 19 pounds.  He was referred to us by Bread to the Nations.  He has a long history with them, mostly the mama not follow with their mamba program.   The mama believes that the child has a curse that someone has put on him.  She does not believe he has a sickness that can be healed by medicine or food.  His papa is a voodoo priest and his mama buys and resells items for a profit.  He is one of 8 children.  The family lives in a 1 room home made of dirt, stick and tin.   They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.  The day he was admitted he has ate some crackers and the day before he had soup.  He was started on the F-75 milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

LOUDEMYA

This little gal weighs in right at 5 pounds.  She was referred to us by Bread to the Nations.  She was having high fever and was just a few weeks old.  Loudemya and her mama are staying with us for 2 weeks to get IV medications.  They have been a joy to have with us and the baby is healing and gaining weight.

ROSE NERLANDE

She is 2 years old and weighs 18 pounds.  When she was admitted her glucose levels were “low” on our machine, which is below 20.  She was unable to hold her head up and was in great danger of dying.  Her father died from cholera and her mama has no income.  She said she just asks people to help her with food for the kids.  There are 6 other siblings.  The family of 8 lives in a 2 room home made of block and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  The get their water from a hand pump that is close to their home.  The day she was admitted she had nothing to eat and the day before had bean sauce.  She also has lost all her hair due to malnutrition and has a bad cold.  She was started on the F-75 milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

 SUZELOVE

She is 21 months old and weighs 14 pounds.  The family of 4 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, clay and tin.  The papa is a mechanic and her mama buy and resells items for a profit.  The family also has gardens where they grow beans and corn.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.  She has had kwashiorkor for several months now but has been taking herbal medicine to see if that would help her.  The day she was admitted she has nothing to eat and the day before has a plate of rice and bean sauce.   She is a very sick little girl and will take time for her to heal.  She was started on the F-75 milk and then graudated to the medika mamba program.
