KERRID
He is 5 years old and weighs 23 pounds. He was referred to us from Children’s Health Ministries. He was very weak and sick when admitted, he was so weak he was unable to walk on his own. He has been having bad stomach pains for a week now and also had a temp of 103. His parents are both farmers and grow beans and corn in their gardens. The family lives in a 1 room home made of cinder blocks and cement. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toliet, but do have an outhouse. They purchase their water from a vendor near their home. The families average monthly income is around $80US. They traveled 4 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
ISMA
She is 3 1/2 years old and weighs 16 pounds. She was refereed to us from Children’s Health Ministries. Her sister (below)Nofie is also here. Nofie and Isma have another sister and brother that are living. The day they were admitted to the Rescue Center one of their siblings died from kwashiorkor. All three were planning on coming for help but only these 2 made it. The family of 6 lives in a 3 room home made of rocks, tin and clay. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toliet but do have an outhouse. They get their water from a source that is about a 10 minute walk from their home. Other than being malnourished and have the beginning stages of kwashiorkor they are not to sick. The day they were admitted they had juice to drink and the day before they had nothing to eat. They traveled 4 hours by motorcycle and taxi to arrive at the clinic. They were both admitted to the medika mamba program.
NOFIE
She is 5 years old ans weighs 18 pounds. She is the sister of Isma above.
OSELET
He is 12 years old and weighs 30 pounds. Both of his parents were killed in a flood in 2008 here in Haiti. Since that time he has been passed around with different family members. He has seizures from time to time as well. Several times he was walking to get water from a local water source by himself and had a seizure and they could not find him for hours. He has been neglected as well in many areas of his life. A neighbor came with him to the asking for help as she saw he was so sick and weak. He has several other brothers and sister that live with other family members as well. They all appear to be doing well and thriving. He was started of the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
WILKIS
He is 16 months old and weighs 17 pounds. He is the cousin to Nofie and Isma above. He has 2 living siblings and his mama is pregnant now. He was showing beginning signs of kwashiorkor and also has a fever and cough when admitted. The family of 10 lives in a 3 room home made of rocks, tin and clay. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toliet, not even an outhouse. They get their water from a source that is about a 10 minute walk from their home. LOVECA
She is 18 months old and weighed 17 pounds when admitted. She lost 2 pounds from her mild kwashiorkor. She is an only child with a young mama and papa. Both parents abandoned her at the grandma’s house and she has not seen them for a few months. Grandma does not have enough money to buy food for them. She has been losing weight for the past few months and this past week has a fever, cough and diarrhea. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toliet but do have an outhouse. The day she was admitted she has a plate of rice to eat and the day before a banana. They families average monthly income is around $30US. She was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.
CLAUDNER
He is almost 4 years old and weighed 26 1/2 pounds when admitted. He has since then lost 4 pounds of “water weight” from his kwashiorkor. The day he was admitted he was so weak that he was unable to sit up on his own. Besides being malnourished and having kwashiorkor he also has a fever, cough and diarrhea. He has one living brother at home and another siblings that died when it was a baby. The family of 4 lives in a 2 room home made of rocks, tin and clay. They do not have running water at their home or a flush toliet, but do have an outhouse. They walk 1.5 hours to the nearest source for water. The families average monthly income is around $166US. The day he was admitted he had nothing to eat and the day before a bowl of soup. He was started on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated to the medika mamba program.

February 21, 2016 at 4:54 pmThe kids at Cornerstone Bible Church in Britton South Dakota, prayed for each of these kids by name today during our prayer time. We will continue to pray for them every Sunday when we meet. Thank you for being in Haiti for these precious kids.
